2023 Silk Way Rally: Two Events in One

Comunicato Stampa disponibile solo in lingua originale.

The thirteenth edition of the Silk Way #rally starts on July 6 and will be the main summer motorsport #event in Russia. Competitors will traditionally find the most interesting routes of the European and Asian parts of the country, as well as completely unexplored routes of the Orenburg, Samara and Saratov Regions. The unique landscapes of the Chelyabinsk Region, one of the largest cultural and business centers of the Southern Urals, will be the highlight of the route.

According to tradition, a round of the Russian Rally-Raid Championship will be held as part of the International Project Silk Way #rally. For many years this Project, created by the Silk Way #rally Association for the Support and Development of Motorsport and the Russian Automobile Federation (RAF), has allowed the competitors of the national championship to gain a unique world-class experience.

The Russian Championship round will start simultaneously with the Silk Way #rally on July 6 in Kazan and last four days, when the drivers will follow the route of the international #event. A joint caravan of competitors will drive from Kazan to Ufa and then reach Magnitogorsk, where the culmination of the Russian Championship round will take place – a circle stage in the vicinity of the city, laid along the most interesting and previously unexplored eastern slopes of the Southern Urals. Competitions of this level have never been held on these steppe rocky tracks before, and they will determine the winners of the Russian Championship round.

At the same time, the new tracks will allow fans to see the #rally closer than ever – the competitive distance is designed taking into account the numerous spectator areas that were previously located along the assistance routes.

The upcoming #event will be the fourth cooperation between the International Project Silk Way #rally and the RAF. The first joint rally-raid took place in 2016, when the Russian Championship competitors started together with the main caravan in Moscow and finished in Alma-Ata, the capital of Kazakhstan. The collaboration then continued in 2018 and 2022. Last year, the Gold of Kagan Baja was held as part of the Silk Way #rally. This time the Silk Way #rally Association for the Support and Development of Motorsport will be the Organizer of the Russian Championship round.

The Russian Rally-Raid Championship round will end in Magnitogorsk, while the Silk Way #rally competitors will go further – to Orenburg, Samara, Saratov, Volgograd and Lipetsk, and on July 15 will finish on Red Square in Moscow, where the Ceremonial Finish and prize-giving will take place.

Vladimir Chagin, Head of the International Project Silk Way #rally,
“The development and popularization of motorsport in Russia is one of the fundamental goals of our Project, and long-term cooperation with the Russian Championship Organizing Committee is a clear confirmation of this. For more than a decade, the Silk Way #rally has been one of the main rally-raid events, and we are pleased to invite the national championship competitors to our bivouac, share our experience and show the drivers the tracks they have never seen before. But the most important thing is the atmosphere of friendship and helpfulness and the adrenaline of fair contest that unite us all and do not allow us to stop developing”.

Viktor Sokolov, First Deputy Head of the International Project Silk Way #rally,
“Cooperation between the Silk Way #rally and the Russian Automobile Federation has been going on for several years, and during this time hundreds of drivers have gained a unique experience of participating in a world-class race. Such interaction at the level of the Organizing Committees allows us to lay a solid foundation for the future rally-raid development in Russia and inspire even more #people to try their hand at this discipline”.
