Season finale in Abu Dhabi: After 22 Grands Prix, the final chequered flag of the 2022 Formula One season fell at the Yas Marina Circuit last weekend. George Russell finished the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in fifth place, one week after securing his maiden F1 victory. His team-mate Lewis Hamilton retired on lap 55 due to a loss in hydraulic pressure and a subsequent failure with loss of gearshift. The Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team end the season in third place in the Constructors' Championship, 39 points behind runners-up Ferrari. The crew and drivers stayed on in Abu Dhabi after the race weekend for the last test day of the year, scheduled to take place on Tuesday. While Lewis and George shared a car and completed an extensive tyre testing programme for 2023, Formula 2 driver and Mercedes-AMG F1 Junior Frederik Vesti got the chance to make his F1 debut and acquaint himself with the W13 on the other side of the garage.
Maro Engel wins the Macau GT Cup for the third time in his career: The Mercedes-AMG Customer #racing teams continued their winning streak at the famous Guia Circuit in the 69th running of the Macau Grand Prix. Maro Engel (GER) in the number 77 Mercedes-AMG GT3 of Craft-Bamboo #racing got the weekend off to an auspicious start by winning the qualifying race on Saturday. Raffaele Marciello (SUI) in the number 99 Toro #racing car was runner-up, making it an all-Mercedes front row for the main race on Sunday. Mercedes-AMG brand ambassador Engel then proceeded to demonstrate his mastery of this most challenging street circuit. After Marciello was obliged to retire early due to a technical issue, Maro Engel confidently defended his lead throughout to eventually seal a personal third overall victory in the prestigious Macau Grand Prix. It was also win number seven for a Mercedes-AMG car.
Six Mercedes-AMG GT4s also competed in the Greater Bay Area GT Cup races, completing both rounds of the competition with a one-two-three finish: Kai Luo Luo (CHN) in the #79 Toro #racing Mercedes-AMG GT4 ran out winner ahead of Phantom Pro #racing drivers Chris Chia (CHN, #33) and Chao Li (CHN, #96).
Podium success at the season opener of the Digital Nürburgring Endurance Series: The 2022/23 season of the Digital Nürburgring Endurance Series, which GT4 cars are also permitted to enter for the first time, opened on Saturday with the DNLS1. So, in addition to seven Mercedes-AMG GT3s, there were also eight Mercedes-AMG GT4s competing in the three-hour race. By virtue of shrewd tactics, the Mercedes-AMG E-Sports Team HRT by Unicorns of Love operated by Yohann Harth (FRA) and Elias Seppänen (FIN) secured third place on the virtual Nordschleife. No fewer than six of the seven Mercedes-AMG GT3s taking part finished in the Top Ten.
Gião and Niskanen celebrate Supercars GT4 South drivers' title in Portugal: Manuel Gião (POR) and Elias Niskanen (FIN) clinched the drivers' championship in Supercars GT4 South with a P2 in class on Saturday and a stunning overall victory on Sunday. These strong results on the final race weekend at the Circuito do Estoril were decisive in them defending their lead in GT4 PRO, the highest class in this particular series.
