Aug 2, 2022 Stuttgart

  • “Festival of Culture & Motoring Lifestyle” from 5 to 7 August 2022 at the new location
  • Mercedes-Benz Classic brings fascinating vehicles from motorsport history to the “Green Park” on the Rhine
  • Mercedes-Benz SSKL Avus race car takes to the track

40 hectares of space with more than 1,500 trees as a stage for the whole range of #automotive classics as well as more than 1,200 free parking spaces for classic cars and young classics: the “Green Park” on the Rhine near Messe Düsseldorf is the new venue for the #classicdays, which will take place this year from 5 to 7 August 2022. Since 2006, the #classicdays around Schloss Dyck have established themselves as one of the most renowned events in classic car culture.

As a cooperation partner of the #classicdays, #mercedesbenzclassic will present outstanding vehicles of the sporty brand tradition from 120 years at this “Festival of Culture & Motoring Lifestyle”: in the Paddock, which is dedicated to the brand’s sporting tradition, vehicles from 1902 to the present day can be experienced. One of the highlights will be the #mercedesbenz SSKL Avus racing car with streamlined trim, which can be experienced during demonstration drives on the 1.8-kilometre track in the middle of the #classicdays grounds. 90 years ago, Manfred von Brauchitsch won the 1932 International Avus Race with the prototype of this unique vehicle reconstructed with a high degree of authenticity by #mercedesbenzclassic in 2019. The race victory on 22 May 1932 helped von Brauchitsch achieve a major breakthrough in motor racing – and also in aerodynamics in automobile construction.

An authentic replica of the Benz Patent Motor Car of 1886, the first car in history, is on the road in the “Green Park”. The special highlight of this guest performance is a performer playing Bertha Benz in contemporary dress. Bertha, the wife of the car inventor Carl Benz, is instrumental in supporting her husband in his groundbreaking invention. In 1888, she also undertakes the first long-distance journey in a car from Mannheim to Pforzheim. Opposite the #mercedesbenzclassic Paddock, the hospitality of the brand with the three-pointed star welcomes members of the recognised Brand Clubs at the #classicdays.

History of #automotive sportiness from more than 120 years

Fascinating encounters of vehicles from different eras characterise the appearance of the world’s oldest car manufacturer at the #classicdays. Thus, the Mercedes Simplex 40 hp, a super sports car from 1902, enters into an aesthetic and technological dialogue with the Vision Mercedes Simplex from 2019. Two vehicles from the unique tradition of these sports cars bring the great anniversary “70 years of the SL” to life: the #mercedesbenz 300 SL racing sports car (W 194) with chassis number 5 from 1952 represents the beginning of SL history. A current Mercedes-AMG SL 63 4MATIC+ (fuel consumption (WLTP) total (combined): 13.0–12.5 l/100 km; total CO₂ emissions (WLTP (combined): 294–282 g/km) bridges seven decades into the present.

In close cooperation with the #mercedesbenz Rhine-Ruhr branch, the current all-electric models #mercedesbenz EQS 580 4MATIC (power consumption (WLTP) will also be combined: 21.3–17.7 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions (WLTP) combined: 0 g/km) and EQE 350+ (electricity consumption (WLTP) combined: 18.7–15.9 kWh/100 km, CO₂ emissions combined: 0 g/km).

The #classicdays 2022 in the “Green Park” take up what protagonists of the classic scene, racing drivers and other celebrities of motorsport history as well as all other visitors have come to appreciate over the years at Dyck moated castle: a stylish staging of classics of all kinds up to extraordinary racing cars, in the centre of the action the demonstration drives on the circuit, plus many colourful paddocks and club areas. All this is part of a great garden party of the #automotive classic summer, as are a good atmosphere and culinary breaks on the picnic meadow.
