Comunicato Stampa disponibile solo in lingua originale.

  • Seasoned talent and a new generation of drivers come together on the new #cupra EKS team taking part in the FIA ETCR eTouring Car World Cup electric touring car championship
  • Tom Blomqvist and #adrientambay will be the new drivers joining Jordi Gené and Mattias Ekström this season as they look to defend the 2021 title
  • The #cupra EKS team will make its debut at the French street circuit of Pau Ville from 6 to 8 May

When you’re the defending champion of a competition you have to raise your game in a big way, and that’s exactly what #cupra has done with its new team, #cupra EKS, where veterans Mattias Ekström and Jordi Gené join new generation racers #tomblomqvist and #adrientambay. In a few days’ time, the four will make their debut on the Pau Ville street circuit in France with a common goal - to defend the FIA ETCR eTouring Car World Cup  electric touring car manufacturers’ championship title.

Raised on the racetrack. Despite their youth, both #tomblomqvist and #adrientambay have a long history in motorsport. When he was just 16, Blomqvist became the youngest driver to win the UK Formula Renault, and now at 28 he’s vying for another milestone at the wheel of the #cupra e-Racer. “Jordi and Mattias have a lot of experience and Adrien and I are very fast. We make a great team, so there’s no holding us back.” It’s a completely new experience for seasoned Formula 3 racer #adrientambay“It’s very different from what I’m used to. It’s a very exciting competition with several qualifying rounds, but that’s the challenge we enjoy as #racing drivers.”

artners in the pit... and rivals on the track. Jordi Gené and Mattias Ekström will not only be their team-mates on the track, they’ll also be their rivals in the battle for the individual victory that Ekström won last season. “Tom and Adrien are very fast drivers, and although they’re young, they have a lot of experience. So far in the tests we’ve done they’ve pushed the car to the limit, so for me it’s going to be a challenge” says Gené, adding, “this is good for the team. They’re going to give us new ideas, competitiveness... it’s going to make us go faster for sure.”

Heightened synergies. Their rivalry is going to have to stay on the track, because at the end of each race, what’s important is that the #cupra EKS team chalks up points. Each of them has a part to play. “It’s not just about being fast on the track. Both Ekström and Gené are experienced drivers in #racing and also in developing the cars. They’ve raced at the highest level in the world for many years and I’m sure we’ll learn a lot from them” says Blomqvist, to which Tambay adds, “You can never stop learning. I’ve been team-mates with Mattias before and I’ve always tried to be like a sponge to learn as much as I can and try to improve.”

Upcoming challenge in Pau Ville. We’ll watch them make their debut as a team on the street circuit of Pau Ville in France from 6 to 8 May. “I’m very excited and a bit nervous... but I love #racing, so I’m hoping for good results for the team and lots of fun along the way” says #tomblomqvist. His more senior colleagues in the competition will be there not only for support, but also to make it a little more difficult for him. “I’m very excited because there’s no doubt it’s going to be one of the toughest seasons for me. But I’m looking forward to this challenge and I’m going to do my best to do well and make the most of it” Gené concludes.
