The #kiaev6 is « The #caroftheyear » 2022. The award ceremony took place in Geneva on Monday 28 February 2022, and was broadcast live on the Geneva International Motor #show website, whose team organised the ceremony for the eleventh time in a row.
The 61-member jury, made up of #automotive journalists from 23 countries, selected the winner from seven models that had made it to the round of finalists in the first voting last November. With the trophy for « The Car of the Year », the #kiaev6 wins the most prestigious and coveted award in the #automotive world, presented since 1964. “It's a nice surprise to see the #kiaev6 receive this award. It was about time that the brand and the group were rewarded, as they have worked so hard on this car. Kia's pace of progress is really impressive.” said the President of the jury of “The Car of the Year” Frank Janssen after announcing the results.
Jason Jeong, President at Kia Europe, commented: “It’s a great honour to have won the 2022 European #caroftheyear with the EV6, the first ever Kia to win this prestigious award. The EV6 is truly a landmark development that’s been designed from the outset to make electric mobility fun, convenient and accessible by combining a highly impressive real-world driving range, ultra-fast charging capabilities, a spacious high-tech interior and a truly rewarding driving experience. The EV6 is an exciting sign of what’s still to come in our evolving electrified line-up.”
The voting results of the seven finalists of “The Car of the Year” 2022:
Kia EV6 - 279 points
Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric - 265 points
Hyundai Ioniq 5 - 261 points
Peugeot 308 - 191 points
Skoda Enyaq iV - 185 points
Ford Mustang Mach-E - 150 points
Cupra Born - 144 points
As in the previous two years, the 2022 ceremony has been webcasted as a livestream only, as this year’s edition of the Geneva International Motor #show (GIMS) has been postponed due to the pandemic. The traditional in-person event is expected to return in 2023, according to Sandro Mesquita, CEO of GIMS: “We are working hard to ensure that the next edition of the Geneva International Motor #show can take place in 2023. The “Car of the Year” ceremony will regain its role as the opening event of the GIMS Press Days, especially as it will celebrate its 60th winner next year.”
Video of “The Car of the Year” 2022 awards ceremony will be available shortly on the Geneva International Motor #show website www.gims.swiss. Photos and B-roll will be made available on the GIMS media centre (www.gimsmediacenter.ch) in the coming hours.
