The McLaren 720S #gt3 has claimed its first title success of the 2022 season, winning the Asian Le Mans Series GT championship, courtesy of Inception #racing in Abu Dhabi at the weekend (February 19-20).

The Inception crew of Pure McLaren GT Series graduate Brendan Iribe, Ollie Millroy and Ben Barnicoat entered the Abu Dhabi #Event as title favourites, following a win in the first round in Dubai. This was followed up by a second place finish in the second race of the weekend that formed the foundation of their title challenge.

Heading into the Abu Dhabi #Event, the squad held a useful lead in the standings, consolidated by another second place finish in the opening encounter. Iribe, Millroy and Barnicoat claimed fifth place in the closing round, securing both GT Teams’ and GT Drivers’ titles by eight points.

The McLaren 720S #gt3 proved to be a formidable challenger in the series, with Optimum Motorsport claiming three fourth place finishes in the hands of Pure McLaren GT Series alumni Nick Moss, McLaren Factory Driver Joe Osborne and Andrew Watson. Meanwhile Garage 59 upheld honours in the finale on their McLaren return with a third place finish for McLaren Factory Driver Marvin Kirchhofer alongside Frank Bird and Alexander West.

“What a fantastic start to the 2022 season with title success for the McLaren 720S #gt3 courtesy of Inception #racing. Congratulations to the team and drivers, including Ben Barnicoat, our original development driver and Ollie Millroy, who also has extensive knowledge of this car. And what a stunning achievement for Brendan Iribe, who we have supported through the Pure McLaren GT Series. It’s a wonderful way to commence our fourth season with the 720S, which remains the benchmark supercar on both road and track.”
