New car: The clock is ticking. On Friday, the new Mercedes-AMG F1 W13 E Performance will be revealed to the eyes of the Formula One world. At 09:00 GMT, the team will unveil its new car for the 2022 Formula One campaign at a live online presentation. Also present will be the two drivers, #lewishamilton and #georgerussell, together with team principal Toto Wolff. The occasion will be streamed live on the team’s YouTube, Twitter and Facebook channels. Later in the day, the W13 will reel off its first laps in the context of a film day at the Silverstone circuit. The team will participate in F1’s preliminary track session at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in the week of 23 - 25 February. This will be followed by the official 2022 pre-season test from 10 to 12 March at the Bahrain International Circuit, which is also the venue for the first Grand Prix of the new season a week later on 20 March. Class of 2022: In the run-up to the presentation of the W13 this Friday, the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team announced the members of this year’s Junior squad. It includes six males - #andreakimiantonelli, #paularon, #yuanpucui, #danielguinchard, #alexpowell, #frederikvesti - and, for the first time, a female - #lunafluxa. There is a
long tradition in #MercedesBenz motorsport history of bringing on young talent. It began in the 1950s, was continued in the world sports car championship in the early 1990s and was brought up to date in 2016 with the revival of the Junior programme. The seven squad members will benefit from the support of the team in 2022, competing in various categories from karting through to Formula 2. Press Information
Points scored on return to Mexico: The Mercedes-EQ Formula E Team were in Mexico City last weekend for the third round of the 2021/22 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. The all-electric #racing series was returning to the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez for the first time since February 2020. The atmosphere in the grandstands, and especially in the Foro Sol stadium section leading into the home straight, was fantastic as the fans enjoyed the return of the competition to the Mexican capital. For the Mercedes-EQ Formula E Team, however, the race weekend in Mexico turned out to be a challenging one, with Nyck de Vries and Stoffel Vandoorne finishing the race
in sixth and eleventh place respectively. While Nyck was able to gain several positions in the closing stages as many of his opponents ran out of energy, Stoffel was spun around in the battle for fifth place and dropped back down the field. After the third round of the season, the Mercedes-EQ Formula E Team find themselves second in the team standings, two points behind Venturi #racing. In the Drivers’ Championship, Edoardo Mortara (Venturi Racing) leads Nyck by a margin of five points, with Stoffel a further eight points behind in fifth. The next two races will take place in Rome on the weekend of 9/10 April. Mercedes-AMG secures two class wins in the Asian Le Mans Series opener: Mercedes-AMG took two class victories at the Dubai Autodrome on the opening weekend of the 2022 Asian Le Mans Series. SPS #automotive performance made a perfect debut in the Asian ACO Series, winning the GT-Am class in both four-hour races. Mikaël Grenier (CAN), Ian Loggie (GBR) and Valentin Pierburg (GER) at the wheel of the number 20 Mercedes-AMG GT3 put in a commanding performance on both Saturday and Sunday. The Haupt #racing trio of Hubert Haupt (GER), Arjun Maini (IND) and Rory Penttinen (FIN) in the number 6 Mercedes-AMG GT3 staged a strong recovery from 13th on the grid to finish a respectable seventh in the GT class in the first race on Saturday and ninth in the second race on Sunday. The second and final fixture of the Asian Le Mans Series comes around next weekend (19/20 February). The 2022 Asian Le Mans Series championship decider takes place at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi. The first race on Saturday will start at 11:30 local time and the second on Sunday at 13:30. Multiple class wins and overall podiums on third outing in the 2021/2022 GT Winter Series: Mercedes-AMG Motorsport took three class wins and two more overall podiums on the third weekend of the GT Winter Series hosted by the Circuito de Jerez in Spain. Olimp #racing finished as runners-up in the two 25-minute sprint races on Saturday as Karol Basz and Marcin Jedlinski (both POL) in the number 77 Mercedes-AMG GT3 got their season off to a successful start. Basz and Jedlinski each competed individually in a sprint race on Saturday and then, in the 45-minute race on Sunday, shared a cockpit, securing fifth place in the GTR class. Drago #racing Team ZVO delivered a GT4 class win on both race days. In the first race on Saturday, Gabriela Jílková (CZE) in the number 1 MercedesAMG GT4 crossed the finish line first, with Robert Haub (USA) chalking up the class win for Drago #racing Team ZVO in the second race. Piotr Wira (POL) of Good Speed #racing Team was the only driver to compete in both sprint races, and, after finishing fifth in class in race one, he posted a strong third place in race two. Wira also drove solo in the #36 Mercedes-AMG GT3 on Sunday, finishing fourth in his class. The final event of the series will take place at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on the weekend of 12/13 March. Three Top Ten results for Mach One Engineering in the Super GT New Zealand: Mach One Engineering registered two Top Ten finishes and a class podium in the Super GT New Zealand opener at Hampton Downs Motorsport Park. Australia’s Jono McFarlane driving the #22 Mercedes-AMG GT4 finished in the points in both sprint races on Saturday and then went on to secure a strong second place in his class in Sunday’s 60-minute race. Strong showing from Mercedes-AMG in virtual motorsport: The Mercedes-AMG E-Sports teams made it another successful weekend in the Digital Nürburgring Endurance Series (DNLS). In the fourth round of the virtual #racing series, all five teams finished among the Top Eight. Luca Kita (GER) and Elias Seppänen (FIN) steering the number 70 Mercedes-AMG GT3 of E-Sports Team Landgraf eventually made it onto the podium in third place overall. No fewer than three teams entered by the Affalterbach-based performance and sports car brand go into the final race on 6th March with realistic chances of winning the championship. HRT, who lead the overall standings on 33 points, are best placed to take the title. Landgraf and WINWARD are currently third and fifth.
Another sim #racing event took place last weekend, namely the iRacing Bathurst 12 Hour. Mercedes-AMG E-Sports team URANO eSports mounted an impressive charge through the field. Having started the race from 39th on the grid, the number 90 Mercedes-AMG GT3 driven by Sam Kuitert (NED), Brian Lockwood (USA) and Alexey Nesov (RUS) finished in 13th place after a marathon twelve-hour team performance.
