The World Rally Championship (WRC), organized by the International Automobile Federation, is a global motorsport competition that takes place on public roads in various countries. The race cars used in the competition are based on automobile manufacturers’ production models. This year’s WRC opened with the Monte Carlo event in Monaco, and the latest machines developed by renowned automakers around the world continue vying to prove their worth in each race.
Japanese automakers have participated as manufacturers in the WRC for nearly 50 years. Twice in the rally’s history, Japanese cars swept every single race for the year, and the notion that only Japanese cars could win the WRC gained credence for a while.
Automakers do not shy away from participating in the WRC because the experience and knowhow gained through the extreme racing conditions can be a valuable asset when developing cars that strongly appeal to customers.
Representative WRC cars from Nissan, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Subaru, Suzuki, Daihatsu—and of course Toyota—have been assembled specifically for this exhibition honoring Japan’s participation in the international competition. Two and a half dimensional (2.5D) images in manga style will dominate the display area, immersing visitors in a series of historical WRC challenges involving Japanese cars.
