Facts & figures from #sochi: Last weekend’s Russian Grand Prix would have been hard to beat in terms of excitement. In a tense final stage, which was characterised by increasingly heavy rain, #lewishamilton secured his fifth victory of the season and retook the lead in the Drivers’ World Championship. After 15 of the 22 races on the 2021 calendar, he leads the championship by two points ahead of Max Verstappen. The Dutchman finished the race in second place, while Valtteri Bottas fought his way up to fifth after having to start from the back of the grid following a power unit change. It was a result that consolidated the Mercedes-AMG Petronas #f1 Team’s 100‑percent winning record in Russia, a streak that began with two victories for the Benz marque in 1913 and 1914. The #sochi Autodrom, which winds its way around the campus of the 2014 Winter Olympics, hosted its first Grand Prix in that same year, and the team has won all eight races at the circuit since. Lewis is the most successful driver at the venue with five wins.

100 victories: The win at #sochi not only earned Lewis valuable points towards the Drivers’ World Championship but also made Formula One history. This 100th Grand Prix victory marks yet another milestone in his career and breaks through a ceiling that no other driver has approached so far. After making a podium appearance on his #f1 debut in the 2007 Australian GP, Lewis then scored a maiden victory in Montreal in only his sixth Grand Prix. Between 2007 and 2012, he won a grand total of 21 races as a McLaren-Mercedes driver, including the first hybrid victory in #f1 history in Hungary in 2009. After joining the Mercedes factory team in the 2013 season, his first appearance on the top step of the podium as a Mercedes #f1 Team driver came in the 2013 Hungarian Grand Prix. Since then, he has won 79 Grands Prix in his 171 races with the team. And it should also be noted that Lewis achieved all of his 100 race wins with Mercedes power in the engine compartment of his car.

Two wins for Mercedes-AMG Motorsport at the final of the #gtworldchallengeeuropesprintcup: Maro Engel and Luca Stolz (both GER) won the final two races of the #gtworldchallengeeuropesprintcup at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia. Driving the number 6 car fielded by Mercedes-AMG Team Toksport WRT, the duo first won the Sunday morning race from second on the grid. The #88 of Mercedes-AMG Team AKKA ASP with Timur Boguslavskiy (RUS) and Raffaele Marciello (ITA) at the wheel contributed another podium finish with third place. A P3 for AKKA ASP’s #87 in the Silver Cup and a P3 for the number 20 SPS #automotive performance in the Pro-Am classification rounded off a successful morning session for Mercedes-AMG Motorsport.

The final race of the season in the afternoon turned out to be even more rewarding. The Mercedes-AMG GT3s had already put themselves in a perfect starting position on Saturday. Engel and Stolz qualified in pole position and were joined on the front row by Jules Gounon (FRA) and Petru Razvan Umbrarescu (ROU) in the #87 AKKA ASP Mercedes-AMG GT3. With their team-mates Jim Pla (FRA) and Konstantin Tereschenko (RUS) in the #89 starting from third and Dominik Baumann (AUT) and Valentin Pierburg (GER) in the #20 from fourth, the fans were treated to the sight of the two front rows on the grid monopolised by Mercedes-AMG.

The Mercedes-AMG Team Toksport WRT number 6 once again took the chequered flag first in the afternoon to claim a second win of the weekend and secure second place in the overall Sprint Cup standings. The victorious duo were followed across the line by Gounon and Umbrarescu to make it a one-two win for the brand. Victory in their class gave Pla and Tereschenko third place in the overall Silver classification, while a class win for the SPS #automotive performance #20 was enough for the driver pairing of Baumann and Pierburg to lift the runners-up trophy in the Pro-Am classification.

The 2021 #gtworldchallengeeuropesprintcup is now over, but the final race of the Endurance Cup is still to come. This will be contested on 10 October at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
