Pajari Holds Strong Lead Heading Into Sunday

Comunicato Stampa disponibile solo in lingua originale.

Sami Pajari maintained his lead throughout Saturday's stages on #rally Estonia following an exciting day of nail-biting battles.

Robert Virves planned to attack Saturday's stages hard and push for stage wins after a disappointing start to the #rally. His #rally went from bad to worse on the opening stage of the day, hitting a concrete block and damaging his suspension. He limped home to service, but his day was already ruined.

Martin Koci struggled for stage winning pace on Friday but started Saturday third overall and claimed three Wolf Stage Win Points in a row on the opening loop, passing Jon Armstrong to take second position. Leader Pajari denied Koci a perfect loop to take the fourth Wolf Stage Win Point of the day.

Armstrong struggled for grip and lacked pace on the opening loop of Saturday's stages after choosing harder tyres than his rivals. For the afternoon loop Armstrong was back on form claiming the first stage win of the loop on SS15, closing the gap to Koci in second place.

Martins Sesks found himself lacking in confidence throughout Friday, but he returned to form on Saturday mixing it up in the fight for Wolf Stage Win Points. Though he couldn't claim a stage win on the opening loop, his hard work paid off with three stage wins in a row at the end of the day. His late surge in pace saw him close in on second, ending the day just six seconds behind Koci in second and five seconds behind a third-placed Armstrong.

Pajari started the day with a 13 second lead and by the conclusion of stage 18 he had built the gap to almost 40 seconds. Despite only scoring one Wolf Stage Win Point on Saturday, Pajari delivered consistent and controlled stage times to bring home a mistake-free day.

Lauri Joona had another difficult day on Saturday, struggling with a transmission issue on the opening loop. He was unable to settle into a rhythm for the remainder of Saturday's stages, ending the day fifth and over three minutes down from Pajari.

Raul Badiu has proved he has the pace to run at the top but so far, he has yet to show that pace on #rally Estonia though it hasn't stopped him enjoying the roads while sitting sixth.

William Creighton is building valuable road knowledge and experience on #rally Estonia and was able to run every stage on Saturday at a respectable pace finishing the day seventh.

Maciej Woda, FIA Junior WRC Championship Manager: "Today has been a very interesting day with the stage times, it looks like the rest of the field has caught up to young Mr Pajari in terms of pace which is great to see. The level that the top-four are fighting at is very intense and it has been really exciting to watch these guys coming through the splits. In fact it has been so close, I can't remember the last time I have seen so many splits being matched mid-stage! Sami has done a very good job today to build the lead while not getting carried away with pushing for stage win points. He has demonstrated a lot of maturity today which is exceptional when you consider he is only 19 years old. Martins, Martin and Jon are locked in a very tight battle over second position going into tomorrow's stages. Six seconds separate them and I couldn't even try to guess which of these talented drivers will end up on top!"

Sami Pajari, FIA Junior WRC #rally Leader: "We enjoyed a really clean run today, completing all the stages safely without any mistake. Everything was under control and I'm really happy with our pace and the car. We start tomorrow in the lead with a safety margin in hand and that's a great place to be."
