Astrid Fontaine assumes executive responsibility for Human Resources at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles

Hannover, Crewe, 5 July 2021 – #astridfontaine, previously Board Member for Human Resources, Digitalisation and IT at Bentley, will join the #volkswagen Commercial Vehicles (VWCV) Brand Board of Management on 1 September 2021, where she will take over as Head of Human Resources.

Astrid Fontaine is currently Board Member for Human Resources, Digitalisation and IT at Bentley. At VWCV she will succeed Thomas Edig, who will move to #volkswagen Sachsen GmbH as Managing Director Human Resources and Organisation. Carsten Intra says: “I am delighted that #astridfontaine will be joining us as an #automotive expert with extensive expertise in the field of Human Resources and Digitalization. With her international experience, she will drive forward the transformation in our company.” In the past three years Fontaine shaped the digital transformation at Bentley as a Member of the Board of Management. She is regarded as one of the most influential women in the #automotive industry in the United Kingdom. In 2019 she was chosen as one of the “Top 100 Most Influential Women in the Engineering sector”.

At VWCV she succeeds Thomas Edig, who since 2015 has stood first and foremost for a new leadership and #corporate culture at #volkswagen Commercial Vehicles and has strategically driven forward the necessary restructuring and transformation of the workforce. “Thomas Edig and his team have developed and implemented the right strategies and measures for VWCV in this time of transformation. On behalf of the Board of Management and the whole workforce I would like to thank him for his innovative and sustainable work and his relentless dedication”, says Carsten Intra.

In addition to his commitment to cultural change within the brand, Bertina Murkovic, Chairwoman of the Works Council of #volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, emphasizes Thomas Edig's role as a pioneer for the successful conclusion of the 2018 site contract. "He was a reliable partner for us as a works council and represented the interests of our brand in the Group with passion. I would particularly like to thank him for that. I wish him, but also his successor, all the best and much success in the upcoming tasks," said Murkovic.

Astrid Fontaine started her career at Mercedes-Benz in Stuttgart, where she worked on #corporate strategy in various management positions. From 2000 she was responsible for digitalisation and IT at Mercedes-Benz USA as Chief Information Officer. From 2011, she worked as a professor of digitization in China and the USA. In 2013 she moved to Porsche North America as Senior Vice President for Human Resources, Culture and Innovation. From 2018 she was Board Member for Human Resources, Digitalisation and IT at Bentley Motors in England and shaped the digital transformation of the company in this function. In addition, she is a Member of the Supervisory Board of #volkswagen Group Services.
