Pata Yamaha with Brixx #worldsbk, GRT Yamaha #worldsbk Team and the Alstare Yamaha #worldsbk Team were in action for the opening round of the 2021 FIM Superbike World Championship season, with riders #toprakrazgatlolu and #garrettgerloff scoring podium finishes, as all five impressed across the weekend.
After setting the benchmark in Friday’s combined times, Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK’s Razgatlıoğlu had initially qualified in sixth during the Superpole, but had his best time deleted due to track limits. It meant the Turkish rider started Race 1 from 10th on the grid, but he wasted no time in making his way through the field, moving up to the podium places in just five laps. He went on to have a thrilling scrap with Alex Lowes’ Kawasaki, but narrowly lost out, seeing Razgatlıoğlu finish third, his first podium at MotorLand Aragón.
In the Superpole Race, the 24-year-old made positions once again, climbing from 10th to sixth at the finish and as the lead rider on the full rain tyres. In Race 2, Razgatlıoğlu battled amongst the lead group for much of the 18 laps, but eventually finished sixth on the intermediate Pirelli tyres as the track dried.
