Herndon, VA — Today, TIME named #volkswagen to its inaugural “TIME 100 Most Influential Companies” list highlighting the 100 companies making an extraordinary impact around the world. The inclusion cites #volkswagen leading the #automotive sector worldwide in committing to a global goal of a carbon-neutral business by 2050 and launching one of the world’s most aggressive rollouts of new electric vehicles.

To assemble the list, TIME solicited nominations from every sector—ranging from health care and entertainment to transportation and technology—from its editors and correspondents around the world, as well as from industry experts. Then, TIME editors evaluated each one on key factors, including relevance, impact, innovation, leadership and success.

“I’m honored that TIME chose to recognize the work thousands of #volkswagen employees around the world are doing to lead our industry and address global warming,” said #scottkeogh, President and Chief Executive Officer of #volkswagen Group of America. “The launch of the electric ID.4 SUV has shown that Americans are ready to embrace electric driving with exciting, innovative vehicles priced right for the market. We want to make the electric future a reality now.”

With the launch of the ID.4 to dealers last month, #volkswagen has begun its transition to an all-electric portfolio in America, toward a goal of selling its last gasoline-powered vehicles by the end of the next decade. #volkswagen Chattanooga has assembled its first battery packs for validation of the upcoming ID.4 assembly line there and will serve as Volkswagen’s North American EV assembly and engineering center, adding new American jobs in electric transportation.

Last week, the #volkswagen ID.4 EV was named “World Car of the Year 2021,” as presented by more than 90 international #automotive journalists from 24 countries, who vote on the best innovations on the world market.
