  • The German championship was very hard fought, decided only in its last race with Edgar crowned champion, just 2 points ahead of the American #jakcrawford
  • Rallying over the weekend too: in the #rallyhungary, valid for the FIA ERC European Rally Championship, the third victory this season for Italy’s #andreamabellini in the #Abarth Rally Cup

An emotional end to the #fiaadacf4championship powered by #Abarth season. On the Oschersleben circuit in Germany, the Briton #jonnyedgar took the title he had contested right up to the final race with the American #jakcrawford, with only 2 points between them. Both drivers raced in the colors of Van Amersfoort #racing team.

Edgar arrived at the final round 23 points ahead of Crawford, but in Race1, the positions were reversed. Edgar ended Race1 outside the points zone after a puncture caused by a touch with Crawford, who came in to win the race, tipping the rankings in his favor and taking the lead in the championship with 2 points over his adversary.

Again, Race2 was favorable for Crawford who managed to overcome Edgar after a long battle, winning by only 115 milliseconds.

The third and last race was crucial, with both pretenders to the title starting in the fourth row. Edgar was faster and instantly managed to move forward three places, then came back into second place by taking risks when overtaking. Conversely, Crawford only managed sixth and lost the title by 2 points.

The winner of Race3 was the German Tim Tramnitz (US Racing), the leader of the German Rookies championship.

This season Edgar – who was born on February 13th, 2004 and lives in Cumbria, England – won 6 out of the 21 races in the German championship.

Jonny Edgar said: “I’m delighted to have won the title, but the last race was too exhausting. I led the championship from day one until yesterday’s yesterday. The gap from #jakcrawford was tiny, and I had to overtake quite a few drivers to win and move further ahead of him. It wasn’t that easy. Despite all of us having to deal with tire wear, I still managed to maintain a faster pace than most of the others, so I could still gain the positions I needed to win the title.”

A weekend of rallies, too.

In the #rallyhungary, round 4 of the FIA ERC European Rally Championship, the young Italian #andreamabellini, with Nicolò Gonella, in a Napoca Rally Team #Abarth 124 rally, took first place in the rankings for the #Abarthrallycup.

Mabellini won after a comeback that took him from fourth place among the #Abarth 124 rally drivers to an overall victory. In an extraordinary short special stage on Friday night, Mabellini fell 5’ behind, although he made it up in the following two days, with great performances in the difficult special stages. The course proved extremely tough, with almost impossible adhesion conditions, due to the very muddy route. The difficult conditions on the Hungarian roads first caused mistakes from the young Romanian Mihnea Mureșan, with Alina Pop, in the Team Bernini Rally #Abarth 124,  who went off track while in the lead. The same fate was suffered by Italy’s Roberto Gobbin with Alessandro Cervo (Winners Rally Team). In the end, the Italian managed to overtake the Czech driver, Martin Rada with Jaroslav Jugas (Team Agrotec).

This further success, his third this season, has brought Mabellini much closer to title, with only two races remaining: the Rally Islas Canarias in Spain (November 26th-28th) and the Spa Rally in Belgium (December 11th-13th).

Andrea Mabellini: “I’d like to thank the team, who worked hard to get me to the starting line on Saturday morning after the problem we had with the suspension on Friday night. Thanks too to my new navigator, Nicolò Gonella, for his amazing work. It was a very difficult rally, with really complex conditions, but I’m happy because I managed to do very well. I learned a lot too.”
