Kawasaki Puccetti Racing – Mahias è secondo sotto il diluvio a Barcellona!

Il Circuit de Barcelona Catalunya ha ospitato oggi la sesta Superpole e la decima gara del campionato mondiale Supersport. Ieri i due piloti del #kawasakipuccettiracing, #lucasmahias e #philippoettl, avevano disputato due sessioni di prove libere, la seconda delle quali si era svolta sulla pista bagnata dalla pioggia. Nella classifica cumulativa dei due turni Mahias era risultato il più veloce, mentre Oettl aveva chiuso in terza posizione.

Per il terzo turno di prove libere di questa mattina la pista non era completamente asciutta a causa della pioggia caduta in precedenza. Nessuno dei piloti è quindi riuscito a migliorare i tempi di ieri e di conseguenza Mahias ha mantenuto la prima posizione e Oettl la terza.
In tarda mattinata si è disputata la Superpole che ha deciso la griglia di partenza delle due gare di questo weekend. Su di una pista completamente asciutta #lucasmahias è stato velocissimo con la sua ZX-6R e con il tempo di 1'44"989 ha conquistato la seconda posizione e la prima fila. Buono anche il sesto posto di Oettl (1'45"576) che è partito quindi dalla seconda fila, nella gara che si è disputata nel pomeriggio.

La gara è iniziata con la pista asciutta, ma sotto un cielo scuro che minacciava pioggia. Entrambi i piloti del #kawasakipuccettiracing sono partiti bene e si sono portati nelle prime posizioni: Oettl secondo e Mahias terzo. Nei giri seguenti i due si sono scambiati le posizioni quasi ad ogni giro, mentre aumentava il loro vantaggio nei confronti dei piloti che li seguivano. A nove giri dalla fine la pioggia ha iniziato a bagnare la pista catalana, aumentando di intensità. Mahias e Oettl sono rientrati al loro box per il cambio gomme. Mahias è entrato in pit line prima del suo compagno di squadra ed è ripartito, mentre proprio quando Oettl stava per rientrare in pista è stata esposta la bandiera rossa, che ha posto definitivamente fine alla gara. Mahias è stato classificato in seconda posizione, mentre Oettl in ottava. Un finale rocambolesco a causa della pioggia, che ha negato alla squadra di Manuel Puccetti un doppio e meritatissimo #podio.
Nella classifica del Campionato Mahias è terzo con 139 punti, seguito da Oettl con 108.
Domani, sempre a #barcellona i due piloti del #kawasakipuccettiracing disputeranno l'undicesima gara del campionato WorldSS.

"La prima parte della gara è stata molto positiva, anche se penso di non aver fatto la giusta scelta di pneumatici. Dieci minuti prima della gara non ne ero ancora sicuro, ma quando ho visto i risultati della gara della Superbike ho pensato che oggi la soluzione più morbida non sarebbe stata quella giusta. Il mio obiettivo era di seguire i primi in attesa degli ultimi cinque giri, ma oggi non siamo mai arrivati agli ultimi cinque giri! Quando ha incominciato a piovere ho pensato che potesse essere un bene per me che ho corso nelle gare Endurance ed ho una buona esperienza in queste difficili condizioni. Quando piove è possibile spingere un poco più forte, un giro in più di quanto si possa pensare. Ho pensato che anche un solo giro in più sarebbe stato importante per il risultato finale, ma quando ho visto come pioveva forte dopo che avevo ormai superato l'ingresso box ho pensato che avevo fatto un errore. E' stato un ultimo giro sotto l'acqua davvero lungo e quando sono finalmente rientrato al mio box è stata esposta la bandiera rossa. Pensavo di aver vin to la gara, ma non è stato così. Concludere sul #podio è sempre bello".

Oettl

"E' stata una buona gara, ma il risultato finale non è stato quello sperato. Ho pensato che avrei lottato con Lucas sino all'ultimo giro, perché avevamo accumulato un buon vantaggio sui nostri inseguitori. E' stata una bella lotta e mi sentivo bene sulla mia #moto, quando la pioggia ha iniziato a cadere ed ho visto Lucas fare alcune sbandate. Ero un poco confuso perché sapevo che nel WorldSS si può fare il cambio gomme, ma non sapevo quando avrei potuto rientrare al mio box. Alla fine è stata esposta la bandiera rossa e sono d'accordo con la loro decisione perché la pioggia era troppo forte. Abbiamo un'altra gara domani e quindi ci riproveremo. Mi sono proprio divertito a lottare con Lucas oggi!".

Kawasaki Puccetti #racing – Mahias second in pouring rain at Barcelona!

The Barcelona Catalunya circuit has today hosted the sixth Superpole and tenth race of the Supersport world champioship. Yesterday saw #kawasakipuccettiracing riders #lucasmahias and #philippoettl complete two free practice sessions, the second of which took place on a wet track. In the combined standings, Mahias proved fastest overall, while Oettl finished third.

The track was not totally dry for this morning's free practice following an earlier rain shower. None of the riders were therefore able to improve on their ties, meaning that Mahias retained first place and Oettl third.

The Superpole took place later in the morning, establishing the starting grid for the weekend's two races. On a completely dry track, #lucasmahias was extremely fast aboard his ZX-6R and scored second place, and a front row start, with a time of 1'44"989. Oettl finished a strong sixth (1'45"576), earning a second row start for the afternoon's race.

The race began on a dry track but cloudy skies threatened rain. Both #kawasakipuccettiracing rider started well and was running up front, Oettl in second and Mahias third. Over the following laps, the two swapped places lap after lap, while building a lead over the chasing group. Nine laps from the end, rain began to wet the track, becoming increasingly heavy. Mahias and Oettl returned to the garage to change their tyres. Mahias came in before his team-mate and headed back out, while Oettl was just about to return to the track when the red flag came out, signalling the end of the race. Mahias finished second as a result, while Oettl was eighth. An unexpected end then, the rain denying Manuel Puccetti's team a probable and well-deserved double podium.

Mahias lies third in the championship standings with 139 points, followed Oettl with 108.

The #kawasakipuccettiracing will return to the Barcelona track for the season's eleventh WorldSS race.

Mahias

"The first part of the race was OK, but I don't think I went with the best tyre. Ten minutes before the race I was still not sure, but when I saw the results of the Superbike race it seemed their extra-soft option was not the best choice. So I started with the soft on my bike, rather than the extra soft. My target was to follow and just wait for the last five laps, but then we never reached the last five laps! When the rain started, I thought OK, because I have race endurance as well as a lot of experience in those conditions. When it starts to rain you can push a little bit for sure, and usually for one more lap than you think possible. I thought doing just one lap before coming in would be OK but when I saw the rain after I passed the pitlane entry, I realised I'd made a bad choice! It was a long final wet lap and when I entered pitlane they put out the red flag. I thought I had won the race but in the end I didn't. A podium finish is nevertheless positive."

Oettl

"It was a good race but the result was not what I expected. I thought there would be a fight with Lucas all the way to the last lap because we had built enough of a gap to those behind. We were having a good battle and I was feeling OK, but then the rain started, and I saw Lucas beginning to slide. I was a little bit confused because we have flag-to-flag races in #worldssp but I was not sure when to come in. In the end they red-flagged the race and – yes - there was a lot of rain. We have another race tomorrow anyway, and will try again then. I enjoyed the fight with Lucas today!"
