Lucas And Philipp Aim High Again

The new-look #2020fimsupersportworldchampionship returns to competitive action at #motorlandaragon this coming weekend, with Kawasaki Puccetti #racing competitors #lucasmahias and #philippottl ready to fight for the podium places once again.

2017 WorldSSP champion Mahias currently sits in third position in the rankings, having recorded two podium finishes at the most recent rounds in Spain and Portugal. One of the most successful riders still competing in the championship Mahias has an immediate target of reducing a 28-point deficit to his countryman Jules Cluzel to move up the championship table.

Lucas has previously demonstrated his true prowess at the #motorlandaragon circuit, having won the WorldSSP race there in 2017.

After just three full rounds and five individual races of his new WorldSSP career Öttl sits overall fifth, with a podium finish at Jerez adding to his points tally. As well as his points scoring successes, Philipp has also recorded a front row start in his rookie season, at the Jerez round in early August.

After the Covid-19 pandemic affected the planned championship schedule in a profound way each race weekend now features not one but two full points scoring races.

On completion of the first Aragon double-header the entire WorldSSP circus will remain on site at the 5.077km long Motorland venue for another full race weekend – titled the Teruel Round - between September 4 and 6.

First of all Kawasaki’s leading riders will face the official #motorlandaragon round itself, between 28 and 30 August, with 50 points up for grabs for any rider who can win both the Saturday and Sunday races.

Lucas Mahias, stated: “I really want to make up for my recent crash at Portimao and so I can’t wait to get back on track. I like the Aragon circuit and won the Supersport race here in 2017. It will be the second time I will compete on the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R at this track. Last year, it was still early days and I wasn’t yet fully confident with my bike setup. This year will be different, starting with the weather of course, which is bound to be hot. I hope to quickly identify a good setting so I can give it my all in the races.”

Philipp Öttl, stated: “Motorland Aragon is not one of my favourites, but I like it well enough and as I’ve already raced here in the past, I can say I know it quite well. I’ve never raced a Supersport bike here though and so it’ll be different this time. The important thing will be to quickly find the right feeling with my bike at this track. We’re in a hot part of the world and so we’ll be dealing once again with high temperatures. It won’t be easy but with the help of my team I’m sure I can score some good results.”

WorldSSP300 champion in 2019, Manuel Gonzalez (Kawasaki ParkinGO Team) will continue his rookie season on the Ninja ZX-6R at Motorland, one of the many local tracks the Spanish rider will compete on this year.
Can Öncü (Turkish Puccetti Racing) is another young hopeful making progress in the WorldSSP championship. Gonzalez is currently 10th and Öncü 11th in the championship rankings.
