The second Grand Prix in the trio of Latvian World Motocross Championship races was held today at the sandy Kegums circuit today – 48km south-east of Riga.

The ultra-competitive MXGP class witnessed Race One unexpected drama for HRC's #timgajser with an average start followed by mistakes that cost the Slovenian three-time Honda World Champion the result that he was clearly capable of.

Tim's Australian teammate #mitchevans was also unlucky after tangling in a first turn scuffle that put him down in 31st place on lap one. Mitch battled his way up to 22nd by lap five, but a mistakes halted his progress, finishing the #moto in 26th.

Race Two saw Evans hit lap one in third place but he struggled the find his early season form, eventually finishing the #moto in 15th.

Gajser was keen to make amends in Race Two, but an average start gave 'Tiga' a tough battle on this fast and challenging circuit, pushing through to 5th at the finish.

There was better Race One luck for Honda SR Motoblouz rider #jeremyvanhorebeek powering his CRF450R into second place for 13 of the 17 laps – eventually finishing the #moto in a heroic 5th place. Race Two was more of a battle for the Belgian, featuring in the mid-pack on lap one and finishing the race in 14th overall to give 'Jerre' a credible 9th overall – the highest placed Honda in the MXGP class today.

The MX2 class saw Honda 114 Motorsport's Australian rider Bailey Malkiewicz show early promising form on his CRF250R posting 10th place in qualifying, followed in 15th place by Swede, Alvin Östlund riding for Team #hondaracing Assomotor.

It was Alvin's teammate #stephenrubini though who topped Honda's MX2 Race One results battling hard through the #moto to finish in a well-earned 10th place – his best MX2 result this year. Stephen's teammate Alvin Östlund also fought hard throughout the race to finish in 13th place. Bailey Malkiewicz and his teammate and fellow Australian Nathan Crawford couldn't find the results they'd hoped for.

Alvin Östlund improved on his fist race result with a 10th in Race Two with another brave ride. Unlucky Rubini didn't finish Race Two and Honda 114 Motorsport's Bailey Malkiewicz and Nathan Crawford finished 17th and 22nd respectively.

Jeremy Van Horebeek 89

I had a good start in the first race and I had the pace to race at the front but I suffered some arm pump and in the end finished in fifth which was good. In the second #moto I was way deep in the pack on lap one and tried to come back through, but I had low energy and struggled to find good lines but we'll keep working hard. The MXGP level is really high but 9th overall is not so bad.

Tim Gajser 243

Obviously I am not happy with how the day went because I know I can do better than this. I wasn't able to get good starts and on this track, that can cause really big problems. My aim now is to get back to enjoying my riding and focus on having fun at the track. Sunday will be the third event here and I still believe I can score good points and get myself back into the championship battle. It won't be easy but I have a good team around me and we are all working hard to get the best results possible.

Mitch Evans 43

It was a bit of a better day than Sunday so I'm happy with how it turned out, even if it didn't start off so well. The first #moto wasn't the best, after getting taken out in the start and then again later in the lap so I went into the second race with the mindset that it can really only get better from here, which thankfully it did. I ripped a good start and was able to hang with the top guys but then my lack of bike time caught up with me and I was able to bring it home in 15th. The more laps I do, the better I progress so I'm staying positive and I know I'll get back to where I was at the beginning of the season.

Alvin Ostlund 161

It was not such a bad day. In the first race I had a bad start so had to battle my way from the back, but I felt good and finished 13th. That's not a position that I'm #racing for but I scored points. In the second race I had a slightly better start so it made the race a little easier. I finished the race in 10th and was also 10th overall, so I'm happy as it's small progress over the last race and I'm looking forward to the final race here in #latvia.

Stephen Rubini 118

In the first race I got a really good start, but found it hard to push and tried hard to remain consistent with my lap times and finishing in 10th position was quite good. I didn't make a very good start in Race Two and felt very tired early in the #moto and had to stop because it was getting dangerous for me to continue.

Gordon Crockard - Honda Off Road #racing Manager

We're here in #latvia for the second Grand Prix of the three Latvian World Championship races.

There was a lot of action and a lot for drama. Some positive points and some frustrating situations that hampered us achieving our final goal.

The highlight for me was #jeremyvanhorebeek running in second position for the majority of Race One and finally finishing in 5th position. He backed that up in the second #moto with more points and finished ninth overall securing his 10th position in the championship standings.

Benoit Paturel battled his way up to 6th place in Race One, but unfortunately suffered damage to his rear brake but managed a points scoring17th place at the finish.

In the MX2 class we saw lots of stressful situations for the riders who suffered some poor starts crashes and fatigue. In general all of our MX2 riders had hoped for some better results and a better experience of the race. The positive fact is that we have some days now for everyone to recover, regroup and have another attack at reaching their goals next Sunday.
