Encouraging Start to EMX125 Championship for Pumpurs and Van Erp

Round one of the #EMX125 Championship coincided with the opening round of the MXGP and MX2 World Championships at the storm-battered Matterley Basin venue in Winchester, England.

The usually spectacular circuit presented challenging conditions after torrential rain on Friday drenched the venue and caused Infront #moto #racing, the series promoters, to revise the program for Saturday 29th February.  As a result, the #EMX125 riders’ time on track was reduced to one 25-minute session which determined the order in which the riders went to the gate for the championship races.

The MJC Yamaha Official #EMX125 Team fields young riders that aspire to be professional riders in the future. Their sole goal is to qualify at each and every round, which can sometimes be challenging.

Proving that they were well prepared after a solid winter of training and riding, both MJC Yamaha riders #mairispumpurs and #ivanovanerp qualified in their first attempt by posting the 12th and 14th fastest times.

Pumpurs confirmed his speed and his potential as the winner of the 2019 YZ125 bLU cRU Cup with an impressive 11th place finish in the opening race, while his young teammate van Erp struggled with the treacherous conditions and finished 29th.

In complete contrast to the wet and stormy conditions that were faced on day one, the sun enhanced the blue of the sky and helped dry the track for the final #EMX125 race on day two.

Even though the weather conditions were much better, the track still proved difficult to navigate due to the weight of the dirt from the rain days prior. Pumpurs fell on the opening lap of the final race which meant he had to fight to the bitter end from 40th position to finish 25th, while van Erp improved on his 29th place in the first race and ended his weekend on the heels of his teammate in 26th.

Focusing on the positives, Pumpurs was happy to put points on the board and to start the season inside the top-20, while van Erp will bank the experience and work towards a stronger finish at the next round of the #EMX125 Championship which will take place on the weekend of April 19th in Arroyomolinos, Spain.
