Winter tests now complete: After six days of testing and a total of 48 hours spent out on the track, the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team completed its preparations for the new Formula 1 season last week in Barcelona. During the winter tests, the team completed 903 laps (equivalent to 4,203 km) – more than any of their opponents. The Mercedes-Benz Power Unit, which is used not only by the works team but also the two customer outfits, #racing Point and Williams, was also the busiest, completing 2,422 laps (equivalent to 11,274 km). Lewis Hamilton had the most active programme of all the drivers, putting in 466 laps (2,169 km). His team-mate Valtteri Bottas went around the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya 437 times, which is equivalent to a distance of 2,034 km.

Rookie test in #marrakesh: The ABB FIA Formula E Championship rookie test took place last weekend on the day after the main #event – the #marrakesh E-Prix. Replacing #nyckdevries and #stoffelvandoorne in the two Mercedes cockpits on Sunday were Jake Hughes and Daniel Juncadella. For Jake, it was a debut drive in a Formula E car.

“This was my first time in a Silver Arrow, and I think it has been really positive,” said Jake after completing a grand total of 75 laps on the Circuit International Automobile Moulay El Hassan. He finished the test day with a personal best of 1:17.303 minutes. “Obviously, it wasn’t about lap times. What mattered was helping the team go through their list of points for the test so they can improve for the rest of the year and beyond. I think I gave them good feedback, and they got a good read on quite a few things they wanted to try. So hopefully the drivers should see an improvement at the next race. From a personal perspective, of course, I enjoyed it very much and the pace was good. I felt comfortable right from the first lap. I really liked Formula E and hope I will be back very soon.”

Taking his place in the second cockpit was the familiar figure of Daniel Juncadella. “It was a lot of fun to be back in a Formula E car with Mercedes,” said Dani, who completed 94 laps of the circuit. He set his fastest time of 1:17.594 minutes in the afternoon session. “It was very good. Mainly, I want to thank everybody for giving me this opportunity, and I hope my feedback was good and helped the team. I think we found some improvements in the car after a weekend where one car was struggling a bit more than the other. I think we found some things and we just kept improving the car during the day, so I think everything went very smoothly. There were no mistakes, and the guys gave me very good information. So everything went very well. Now I hope that my feedback will help the team to get good results in the future.”

Title defence begins in the GT World Challenge: The new season of the GT World Challenge Powered by AWS gets underway this weekend (6 - 8 March) at the Circuit of The Americas with the first two races of the GT World Challenge America. The name of the sponsor may be new, but the concept remains the same. It is a global competition in which the results of three continental GT #racing series in Europe, America and Asia are combined. Last year’s GT World Challenge manufacturer’s championship was won by Mercedes-AMG. Defending the title will be a major undertaking this season because, in addition to the results of the sprint races in Europe, America and Asia, points scored in the endurance races of the GT World Challenge Europe are now also taken into account.

In the two 90-minute races on the Circuit of The Americas in Texas, DXDT #racing will again field two Mercedes-AMG GT3s with Colin Braun and George Kurtz (both USA) in the number 4 car and David Askew (USA) and Ryan Dalziel (GBR) in the number 63. The four podium finishes of the Customer #racing team in their class in 2019 played a decisive role in winning the manufacturers’ title for Mercedes-AMG. This season’s Customer #racing line-up is reinforced by Winward #racing whose pairing of Bryce and Russell Ward (both USA) will be driving the number 33 Mercedes-AMG GT3.
