FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., Feb. 28, 2020 – As part of Hyundai’s ongoing support for the LGBTQIA+ community, the company is partnering with Outfest Fusion’s “One Minute Movie Contest” to award one talented filmmaker with the 2020 #hyundai Emerging Director Award. The winning director will ultimately create the second installment of Hyundai’s “OUT for Greatness” content series that celebrates the authentic and inclusive stories and storytellers within the LGBTQIA+ community.

Outfest Fusion’s “One Minute Movie Contest” challenges aspiring and established filmmakers to shoot a one-minute short #film with various prizes for the best films showcasing this year’s theme of “Building Empathy and/or Breaking Apathy”. Hyundai’s Emerging Director Award will be an additional prize to the contest and is based not only on the creative of their ‘One Minute Movie’ submission, but also on their answer to a short essay question and additional submission materials including a resume, online portfolio and/or an additional short work sample under 5 minutes in length.

The selected director will create an “OUT for Greatness” commercial for #hyundai that features a story from a queer perspective. The spot will play at the many LGBTQIA+ events that #hyundai sponsors and will be amplified on #hyundai and Outfest’s owned and social media channels. An established director and producer will mentor the winner by supporting and guiding them through the creative process. Additionally, a behind the scenes “Making Of” will be created to showcase the mentorship between the community of emerging and established creatives working together.

“Hyundai’s mission is to build a better future, so we are excited to support the next generation of storytellers and build on the success of the “Out for Greatness” platform,” said Angela Zepeda, CMO, #hyundai Motor America. “We place high value on diversity and we stand together with the community to drive inclusivity and acceptance for all.”

Hyundai is the exclusive #automotive #sponsor of Outfest Fusion Film Festival, a #film festival that celebrates the rich heritage of LGBTQIA+ individuals that populate greater Los Angeles. The films and TV shows that screen at #outfestfusion showcase the stories of LGBTQIA+ communities of color, including African, African American, Asian and Latinx perspectives as well as many other cultural identities. In addition to the contest, the #partnership includes a wide range of activations where attendees will have the opportunity to experience Hyundai’s newest models throughout the festival that takes place from March 6–10 in Los Angeles.

Hyundai will continue its support of the LGBTQIA+ community throughout the rest of the year as the executive #automotive #sponsor of Newfest and the presenting partner of the GLAAD Media Awards. Hyundai’s employee resource group, Drive:Equality, will also continue promoting a positive and inclusive work environment for all LGBTQIA+ #hyundai employees. Last year, the group coordinated Hyundai’s first-ever pride festival, Celebrate Love.

Additionally, #hyundai was recently recognized as one of the Best Places to Work for LGBTQIA+ Equality for the fourth consecutive year by receiving a score of 100 percent in the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s #corporate Equality Index.
