News snippets

Start of shakedown week: Under hashtag #WelcomeINEOS, the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team welcomed new Principal Partner INEOS to the #mercedes motorsport family on Monday. During the event at the Royal Automobile Club in London, Team Principal Toto Wolff and Sir Jim Ratcliffe, founder and chairman of INEOS, also unveiled the team’s livery for the 2020 Formula One season. It was the perfect way to start a week that has a very special Valentine’s treat on Friday - the first track outing of the new 2020 Formula 1 #mercedes in the context of its shakedown at the Silverstone International Circuit.

Mexico, here we come: While their colleagues are preparing for the inaugural drive of the new Formula One car, the Mercedes-Benz EQ Formula E Team are already on their way to Mexico City where the fourth round of the 2019/20 ABB FIA Formula E Championship season is due to be contested next Saturday. The Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, which is set to host the race for the fifth successive year, will this time have a significantly different configuration as well as being 25 percent longer, thereby posing several new challenges for drivers and teams. The past four E-Prix - contested at an altitude of more than 2,200 metres - were won by Lucas di Grassi (twice), Daniel Abt and Jerome d’Ambrosio.

Successful conclusion to the SRO Winter Invitational in California: The SRO Winter Invitational is a GT series for drivers in the Bronze category and is staged between the months of December and February at The Thermal Club circuit in California. The Mercedes-AMG GT3s fielded by Mercedes-AMG Customer #racing teams DXDT #racing and US RaceTronics/O’Gara Motorsport were in excellent form, chalking up three race wins and seven more podium places in the six races. Two of the six 40-minute sprint races were won by Steven Aghakhani (USA) of US RaceTronics/O’Gara Motorsport and one by David Askew (USA) of DXDT #racing. Aghakhani’s performances were all the more remarkable, as the 16-year-old was obliged to compete as a Silver driver with additional ballast (BoP). With Askew’s victory last weekend and four more podium finishes, DXDT #racing showed themselves well prepared for the GT World Challenge America Powered by AWS season, which opens at the Circuit of The Americas on the weekend of 6th - 8th March. The results from the North American #racing series count towards the global manufacturers’ championship of the GT World Challenge, in which Mercedes-AMG is the defending champion.
