Peter Hickman wins his first Supersport race on #Dunlop tyres
Dunlop’s D213 GP Pro provides excellent high-speed stability
Dunlop riders #leejohnston and #peterhickman secured victory in both Isle of Man Supersport TT races, with Johnston winning race one and Hickman winning his first Supersport race and second victory of the week.
In the first race, on board the Ashcourt #racing Yamaha bike, #leejohnston took his maiden #isleofmantt victory, beating James Hillier by 3.6s, with fellow #Dunlop rider #peterhickman rounding out the podium places in third.
Johnston was ecstatic to win his first TT: “To come here and race with Pete and James is a big step for me, probably in the last three or four TT’s I haven’t performed to the level I am capable of, so to finally come back and get a win, it feels amazing and when I came in I was crying like a baby. The feeling is something unbelievable and not many #people get to experience that in the world, and I am one of them.”
In the second race, riding the Trooper Beer by Smiths #racing Triumph, #peterhickman held off the challenge of Dean Harrison to win the race and secure his second victory of the week.
The lead of the race switched back and forth between Hickman and Harrison. Hickman set a last lap average speed of 128.414 mph to secure the win by 3.3 seconds: “I’m pleased to have won a Supersport race - I’ve been so close for so long, Monday was the closest I’ve ever been and to see P1 on the board was nice. To do over 128 [mph] I’m over the moon with and to get the win is even better.”
The Supersport wins were particularly significant for #Dunlop. They launched the road-legal D213 GP Pro in 2017, to provide excellent high speed and braking stability performance. Its distinctive cutting-edge fin-shaped pattern ensures faster warm-up times, allowing the riders to push with confidence from earlier in the lap.
