Mercedes-Benz Global Fashion Engagement 2018 - Mercedes-Benz affirms its dedication to fashion

Comunicato Stampa disponibile solo in lingua originale.

For 23 years, Mercedes-Benz has been a dedicated supporter of the #fashion industry, sponsoring select #fashion weeks and events internationally, devising programs to support emerging designers and creating high profile #fashion campaigns and since 2017, global #fashion Stories. Renowned as a luxurious and innovative automobile brand, Mercedes-Benz is the perfect partner to align with #fashion brands that share these principles be they established or emerging and is always seeking new ways to reach the discerning and design-conscious. As well as supporting over 60 international #fashion platforms, including Tbilisi, Istanbul, Berlin, Madrid and Australia, Mercedes-Benz has founded a number of innovative partnerships and programs (such as the International Designer Exchange Program) in order to nurture emerging design talent globally.

#WeWonder Manifesto
Hot on the heels of the 2017 #mbcollective #fashion story, ‘Generation Now, Generation Next,’ comes the #WeWonder #fashion story which celebrates the Concept EQ: Mercedes-Benz’ car of the future. The Concept EQ is Mercedes-Benz’ electric car of the future, and forms the basis of electro-mobility for the brand going forward. It is the epitome of forward-thinking design, innovation, creativity and a bold modern vision, qualities it shares with the best the #fashion world has to offer. The question is, ‘How will #fashion respond to this future, and what will it look like?’ To find the answer, Mercedes-Benz worked with a select group of 'visionaries’ to create a #WeWonder manifesto.

To build the #WeWonder #fashion story, Mercedes-Benz brought together innovative, inspiring and astute individuals from the creative industries, specifically #fashion, music, art, design, social activism and future-forecasting. These visionaries were given a simple task – to ‘wonder’ about the future, picturing a world where the Concept EQ is no longer a concept, but a functioning reality.

The #WeWonder visionaries are some of the world’s most astute industry figures: #carollim and #humbertoleon of Kenzo and Opening Ceremony; musician Solange Knowles; Hans Ulrich Obrist the artistic director of Serpentine Galleries; founder of Hypebeast Kevin Ma; Kimberly Drew, a writer, curator and social activist, and #fashion model Slick Woods. Ignoring the binaries of utopia versus dystopia, these thought leaders created a shared vision of a future driven by hope, inspiration and imagination and devised a dynamic manifesto with sustainability at its core. In early 2018, editor and influencer Caroline Issa moderated a round-table discussion in London between the visionaries, held in an interactive setting alongside the Concept EQ. It was here, that the foundations were laid for the #WeWonder #fashion story and its themes. In celebration of this ‘Manifesto Day’ and to underline the connectivity between all of Mercedes-Benz’ #fashion activity, the visionaries were dressed by designers promoted by MercedesBenz’ International Designer Exchange Program (IDEP), including Nobi Talai, Damir Doma and Jan Cerny.

The #WeWonder visionaries are now members of the #mbcollective, established in 2017, and are set to take the conversation worldwide through a series of provocative and interactive calls to action. The #WeWonder Manifesto will be a truly global #fashion story, intended to sparking debate about the Page 4 future among a global #fashion audience.

So far four of the visionaries have launched their themes: Kimberly Drew with a panel discussion exploring her theme ‘Equity’ at the Mercedes-Benz me Convention at SXSW in March.
