Amarok production in future also in Algeria

Hannover/Relizane, 23 October 2018 – Working successfully together: #volkswagencommercialvehicles and SOVAC S.P.A. expand their partnership in #algeria. In the future, the assembly plant in Relizane
(280 kilometres south west of Algiers), where the Caddy is already produced, is set to make the #amarok pick-up as well. The plant has already just produced the 10,000th Caddy – seven months earlier than planned due to the great demand.
Board of Management Member for Production and Logistics Dr Josef Baumert and Board of Management Member for Sales and Marketing Heinz-Jürgen Löw have now signed an agreement in Relizane with Mourad Oulmi, CEO of SOVAC S.P.A, on production of the #amarok by the joint venture company SOVAC Production S.P.A.
Baumert: "Following the successful start of local Caddy production last year, this is a logical next step for us. #amarok production in #algeria is a further milestone in our strategy of internationalisation." The pick-up is already made in three locations: Hannover, Pacheco (Argentina) and Quito (Ecuador). Baumert stressed: "The production is carried out everywhere in accordance with our Group-wide quality standards." In order to ensure this, he added, the Algerian staff in the Production, Logistics and Quality Assurance departments had received on-site training from #volkswagencommercialvehicles experts. The Algerian management staff had also been through an upskilling programme lasting several months. Baumert: "All of this will assure the level of product quality that customers associate with us."
10,000th Caddy made in Algeria
After only around a year, the 10,000th Caddy (Edition 35, Grey Metallic, 2,0l TDI) has also just rolled off the production line in Relizane. Löw explained: "This landmark shows that in the Caddy we have exactly the right vehicle for our customers in this market. Being an all-rounder, it provides flexible solutions for the challenges of everyday life – with lots of storage space, a large array of standard features, numerous driver assistance systems and efficient engines. By making it here in Relizane we and our partner SOVAC are tapping into further markets, raising our profile and creating local jobs. We are very proud of this close partnership."
Mourad Oulmi, CEO of SOVAC S.P.A. (Suggestion, please agree with our partner): "We are delighted to have produced the 10,000th Caddy in such a short time. As a logical consequence, we are now expanding our partnership with #volkswagencommercialvehicles through the planned production of further models.
The Volkswagen Group and local partner SOVAC S.P.A. launched the multi-brand joint venture company SOVAC Production S.P.A. back at the end of July 2017. In addition to the Volkswagen Passenger Cars and #volkswagencommercialvehicles brands, SEAT and ŠKODA also do final production in the Relizane assembly plant, where around 200 vehicles a day can be made.
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles' International Logistics division provides vehicles for dispatch
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles' International Logistics division in Wedemark near Hannover (around 250 employees) supplies the vehicles across all brands for local assembly abroad. Andreas Spindler, Director of xKD small series & International Logistics #volkswagencommercialvehicles: “We regulate the production site in #algeria. Our task is to make state-of-the-art technology available globally for our customers. We also ensure first-class, reliable parts delivery. The International Logistics division is the perfect platform for this, offering flexible solutions for the individual needs of the markets in the different countries."
