  • Journey of discovery through Europe ends in Berlin

Berlin, 28 August 2018 – After covering more than 12,000 kilometres, the Road Trip Project initiated by the EU Commission now ends in Berlin. Over the last four months eight young Europeans were able to discover the diversity of Europe in a very new way along four different routes. #volkswagencommercialvehicles supported the project with a T6 Multivan Highline, with which the participants discovered 25 countries.

The first route ran alongside the Mediterranean, then came the "Atlantic stage" and a drive following the path of the Danube. The final route led through northern Europe along the Baltic Sea coast. Along the way, the travellers were able to learn more about the countries and the people, experienced breathtaking natural landscapes at close quarters and visited a range of EU Commission projects. At the conclusion of the road trip the eight participants met up again in Berlin and swapped experiences.

Fabian from Lithuania (25), a participant on the second route, recalls the trip along the way from Portugal to the Netherlands: "There were some firm friendships made, which for me is priceless. The Multivan was definitely also part of our team. It was not just a vehicle that got us from A to B, but rather our house on four wheels, a place full of memories of great conversations and lots of exciting visitors."

Luisa (26) from Germany is also full of praise for the Multivan: "For me the road trip bulli was a case of love at first sight! One day I'd like to have one of my own so that I can continue my road trip." For her the most outstanding experience was a via ferrata over a gorge in Greece: "Just silence, my trembling knees and nature. Scary and breathtaking all in one," she recalls.

About the "Road Trip Project"

Using a casting process, eight Europeans were selected by the European Commission from a large field of over 2,000 applications. In four stages, with two participants on each, the trip led through a total of 25 countries: the aim was to get to know the countries and people of the EU and to create a platform for international discourse. The participants were supported in each location by various bloggers and local celebrities, who showed them their part of Europe. From the experiences and the insider tips from the locals a unique online travel guide is now being produced. Also present on the road trip was a camera team, who made a record of the adventures and impressions as a documentary.
