  • Michael #Dunlop wins RST Superbike race in record time
  • Conor Cummins completes #Dunlop 1-2
  • Six #Dunlop riders in the top ten

The #Dunlop KR 106 and 108s were on top form in the opening race of the #isleofmantt today (Saturday 2 June) taking both first and second place in the RST Superbike TT.

The technology in the tyre is designed to optimise performance and deliver outstanding grip and outright feedback at the world’s most demanding road race and doing just that it resulted in the 31st victory for the slick tyres at this iconic race.

Michael #Dunlop took an emotional RST Superbike TT victory riding his #Dunlop shod Tyco BMW to his 16th TT win. His total time secured a race record of 1:44.13.398, while he also set the fastest sector time from Cronk-ny-Mona to the Grandstand.

Dunlop slotted into second at the start behind Dean Harrison, who pulled out a 14-second advantage over the opening three laps. On lap four #Dunlop had reduced the deficit to the leader to just four seconds, and when Harrison retired from the lead with clutch issues, #Dunlop immediately picked up the mantle and went on to record the win.

Conor Cummins completed a #Dunlop 1-2, taking a resounding second place, having run in the top three throughout the six-lap race. He brought his Padgetts Motorcycle Honda home 50 seconds behind #Dunlop to match his previous best result and secure a seventh podium finish at his home event.

Just missing out on his first TT podium, and equalling his best result on the Island, David Johnson aboard the stunning Gulf BMW was just half a second adrift of third place. Honda Racing’s Lee Johnston came home in sixth, while his team-mate, 16-time TT winner Ian Hutchinson retired at Governors at the end of lap four.

Ivan Lintin continued his good TT form, the lightweight pace-setter taking a career-best finish of eighth for Dafabet Devitt #racing Kawasaki, while also setting a personal best lap time. Josh Brookes rounded out the top ten with another stirring performance for the stunning Norton.

One of the biggest disappointments of the race was the retirement of Peter Hickman on the opening lap when he suffered a misfire on the Smiths #racing BMW. The fastest rookie at the TT and one of the pacesetters in practice, was the fastest through the Sulby speed track, recording 194mph!

Racing resumes on Monday 4 June, with the Monster Energy Supersport TT scheduled to start at 10.45 and the RL360 Quantum Superstock TT at 14.15.
