MXGP - Julien Lieber eighth in qualifying

Julien Lieber of the Monster Energy #kawasakiracing Team raced to eighth place in qualifying for tomorrow's German round of the FIM World #mxgp #motocross Championship at the rapid #teutschenthal track.

Overtaking has always been notoriously difficult at the raceway in eastern #germany and, with a decent choice of start gate for the two points-scoring races imperative, none of the leading riders was taking any unnecessary risks with no points at stake in qualifying. Julien maintained his top eight placing throughout the twenty-four minute race to finish less than half a minute behind the race-long leader.

Julien Lieber: “The practice sessions were not so good for me, but that has been like that for me for several years so it didn’t bother me. We keep the same settings on the bike and I still got a good start from the eighteenth gate; I now have the eighth gate pick for tomorrow, which should be good as it’s never easy to pass on this track.”

Alessandro Lupino of Gebben Van Venrooy Kawasaki finished ninth, just one second behind Lieber, and his teammate Maxime Desprey also showed good speed to finish thirteenth, but a crash on the opening lap saw KRT leader Clement Desalle face a long hard ride from dead last to twenty-first, one place behind comeback boy Tommy Searle of Bike It DRT Kawasaki.

Alessandro Lupino: “It was another good day for me. It’s been going better and better for me for several GPs now as the team continues to make good adjustments to the bike to suit my style. It’s great to have this feeling again, to enjoy riding whether it's for fun or for a race. I got a pretty good start in the qualifying race and for sure that makes the job easier ! It was important to have a good gate for the GP motos; many riders are fast here and the start is very important.”

In the MX2 class F&H Racing's Jed Beaton showed podium pace as he finished seventh in a tightly-knit leaderboard battle in qualification; the Australian Kawasaki rider held his seventh place from start to finish.
