Rüsselsheim.  And they’re off! The 7th edition of the #bodenseeklassik classic car rally is currently underway in the region around Lake Constance with thousands spectators providing the perfect backdrop for the start of the festivities for the 50th anniversary of the #Opel GT. Over the course of the three-day #Event, around 180 classic cars, including five of the legendary sports cars designed in Rüsselsheim, will tackle five stages totalling 600 kilometres. This year, the rally takes the drivers and their vehicles from the beautiful city of Bregenz to the mighty Alpine peaks of Tirol.

Actor Ludwig Trepte accepted the “leading role” in the festivities to commemorate the #Opel GT’s half-century and was one of the first well-wishers. The Berliner, best known for his Emmy Award winning role in “Generation War” and for his part in the German miniseries “Deutschland 83”, was behind the wheel of a 1969 #OpelGT 1900. “I was born in 1988 and to be honest, you can get a little bit jealous when considering that the GT is almost 20 years younger than me and has lost nothing of its coolness,” said Trepte. He was joined on the starting line in Bregenz by #Opel Brand Ambassador and former DTM driver Joachim ‘Jockel’ Winkelhock who was also driving a 1969 GT and is especially keen on precision. “The GT fascinates me each time anew. The unity between driver and vehicle is intense. It is a primordial experience that I know from racing and obviously has a lot to do with feeling,” said Winkelhock.

In addition, the spectators could also take a closer look at the Opel Insignia GSi. Opel’s latest sports machine is currently on show in front of the Festspielhaus in Bregenz alongside one of its predecessors – a 1971 Opel Commodore A GS/E.

The rally kicked off with yesterday’s prologue from Bregenz, through the Allgäu and back to Lindau. Today, the route takes the participants to Upper Swabia, the region around Ravensburg, while the final stage will mainly take place in Austria tomorrow when cars and drivers will have to tackle the Alpine climbs of the eastern Allgäu, Tirol and Vorarlberg.
