Land Rover participates enthusiastically at Fuorisalone in Milan to celebrate the new Discovery Sport that inspired Unstoppable Spirit, product of a unique collaboration between the acclaimed Gerry McGovern, Land Rover’s Design Director and Chief Creative Officer, and Italian artist Nino Mustica.
Unstoppable Spirit is comprised of two dramatic sculptures reaching over seven metres and,
for the very first time in Italy, was inspired by the design and capability of the new Land Rover Discovery Sport and celebrate the fusionbetween automotive design and contemporary art.
Strongly supported by Gerry McGovern, Land Rover Design Director, one of the greatest designers in the global automotive industry, and designed by Nino Mustica, artist and experimenter with the 3D modelling software to further elaborate his paintings, transforming colour and its emotions on canvas into ‘shapes of colour’.
To achieve the tangled, curved surfaces requested by McGovern and Mustica, an innovative production technique wasdeveloped using Land Rover’s virtual reality cave, a process normally reserved for the development of prototype cars. Such was the attention to detail that over 8000 working hours were required for their construction.
Made from a combination of steel and glass fibre, Unstoppable Spirit measures over 7m x 6m x 6m and is of such a size that the integrated Land Rover Discovery Sport’s forms arereplicated in a scale of 1:1.
