This morning at the Paris Motor Show, Jean Todt, president of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA, International Automobile Federation) awarded Venturi Automobiles and our partner, the Center for Automotive Research (Ohio State University), a Trophy in recognition of the team setting a new FIA world speed record in an electric vehicle. On August 22nd the Venturi VBB-3, driven by Roger Schroer, reached an average speed of 342.170 km/h (212.615 mph) on the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah (record classified in category VIII Class 8, electric vehicle over 3.5 metric tons). The Venturi VBB-3 team's initial objective was to break the world absolute speed record for an electric vehicle. It was set in 2010 by the same team with the VBB-2.5: 495 km/h (308 mph). However, the summer's exceptionally rainy conditions, the worst in over 30 years, flooded the tracks. Only part of the tracks could be used, precluding any attempt to break the world absolute speed record...
