Öncü Back Into Race Action Again

After missing much of the 2023 FIM Supersport World Championship season due to an arm injury suffered at Assen in April, Kawasaki Puccetti #racing team rider #canoncu will take part in his second comeback race meeting when he arrives in Motorland Aragon this weekend. Competitive action in the WorldSSP class will take place between 22-24 September.

Can will race on his Ninja ZX-6R once again after his return to action in France two weeks ago. Despite his arm not being back to full strength - and intense rivalry from the high level of competition that is apparent all the way through the field this year - Can scored points for 14th place in Race Two at Magny Cours. That most recent performance sees him 14th in the overall championship ranking, despite missing five full rounds and ten individual races.

Can’s championship position has been helped by the fact that he made his breakthrough WorldSSP race win at Mandalika in Round Two, shortly before the return to Europe.

This will be the tenth round of the season for WorldSBK in general and Motorland Aragon will be a challenging event for Can, given that it is predominantly full of left hand corners. This factor plus the many changes of direction and chicanes may give his injured left arm a particularly hard time.

There will be two 15-lap races for the WorldSSP riders to compete in at Motorland Aragon, with the first on Saturday 23 September.

Can Öncü, stated: “The Magny Cours round was very important for me and confirmed all the progress I’ve made while recovering from my injury. The Aragon event will be useful as I continue on this path to recovery. I’m pleased to be back working with my team and to be able to race with my Ninja.”

Adrian Huertas (MTM Kawasaki) has put in some strong rides in his second season of WorldSSP competition, including three fourth place finishes. He has moved up to eighth place in the championship despite being injured for the first two rounds of the year.

Hailing from Madrid, Adrian gets to ride at a home race when he goes to Motorland, so he could have no better venue in which to secure his first podium in WorldSSP. He has come tantalisingly close a few times in the recent past.

The Vince64 by Puccetti #racing Kawasaki squad has split with its previous regular rider John McPhee since the Magny Cours weekend and they will field Leonardo Taccini at Motorland Aragon.

Tom Booth-Amos (Motozoo ME AIR #racing Kawasaki) lies 15th overall in the WorldSSP table after only competing in the WorldSSP Challenge rounds held at the European based races. He is still the leader in that class-within-a-class of competition with three rounds to go.

Luke Power (Motozoo ME AIR #racing Kawasaki) and Yuta Okaya (Prodina Kawasaki Racing) continue their personal #racing development within the WorldSSP Challenge, with Power having already scored a main championship point in his rookie season.
