Career Best Ride Sees Huertas Fourth

Lucas Mahias (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) was run off track in the second #worldssp race at Donington Park, eventually retiring at around half race distance. The top Ninja ZX-6R scorer was #adrianhuertas (MTM Kawasaki) who took a career best fourth place.

Mahias made good use of his fourth place starting spot at the beginning of the second 19-lap #worldssp race of the Donington weekend, staying inside the top six despite strong passes from some of his rivals.

He was eventually run off track at the top of the Craner Curves section on lap seven. He dropped to 14th and would finally come in to the pits on lap nine to retire. Fortunate not to crash as he took to the grass he experienced strong muscle spasms in his right forearm after he got back onto the track, forcing him to retire.

Huertas had an intense race, run with full commitment from the start, moving up from fifth to fourth and then pushing hard to take his best race finish of his #worldssp career to date.

In the overall championship, the injured Can Öncü is still the highest-ranked Kawasaki rider in tenth place, with Huertas 12th. Mahias, having only ridden in three rounds so far, is 19th.

A busy period for the #worldssp riders is now underway with the Imola round being held between 14-16 July and the Most race weekend taking place over the weekend of 28 to 30 July.

Lucas Mahias, stated: “A very difficult race. I made a good start and was fighting at the front when a rider hit me and ran me off track. I ended up on the grass and it was a miracle I didn’t crash. I don’t know if it was caused by that, but shortly after I started to feel pain in the muscles in the right forearm, which seized up. It was too risky to continue in that condition and so I chose to retire. I’m sorry for the team as they’ve worked so hard this weekend and I really wanted to give them a good result.”

With Huertas in fourth at Donington, sixth place for Tom Booth-Amos (Motozoo ME AIR #racing Kawasaki) was also his career best in #worldssp, extending his lead still further in the #worldssp Challenge series-within-a-series, for riders who only compete in the European rounds.

John McPhee (Vince64 by Puccetti #racing Kawasaki) once more started from the back of the 30-strong grid, finishing his home weekend with a battling 18th place.

Luke Power (Motozoo ME AIR #racing Kawasaki) ran off track in the second race. After regaining the track in last position, he finished 24th, two places up on his qualifying position. Yuta Okaya (Prodina Kawasaki Racing) was 25th from the 26 race finishers.
