Öncü Fourth After Thrilling Fightback

Kawasaki Puccetti #racing rider #canoncu finished an intense opening #worldssp race at the #sanjuan Villicum circuit in fourth place. His team mate Yari Montella was eighth, once again scoring valuable points.

Öncü had a tough time in qualifying and was a lowly 14th, leaving him on the fifth row of the grid at the start of a hot Race One.

Can rode with controlled aggression to move up to fourth place at the flag, eventually finishing just under seven seconds from the race winner. Still third overall in the points standings, Can also extended his points advantage to the rider behind him, with one more Villicum race to come on Sunday 23 October.

Also starting from the fifth row of the grid Montella made up places in the race to finish eighth, fighting in a group that finally contested the finishing places from sixth to tenth.

Once again the track temperature reached 50°C at the 4.276km long Villicum circuit located at altitude in the semi-desert landscape around the city of #sanjuan.

On Sunday 23 October the second race will take place at #sanjuan Villicum, at 13.30 local time, with the potential for slightly higher temperatures according to local weather forecasts.

Can Öncü, stated: “A race conditioned by my starting position. I got away well and pushed to the max from start to finish, remaining focused, which allowed me to make up twelve positions. By the time I got to the front of my group, the front three were unreachable and so I had to settle for fourth place. We’ll try again tomorrow. Thanks to my technicians for providing me with such a competitive bike.”

Yari Montella, stated: “It was a good race. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to exploit my laps in Superpole and so had to start from further back on the grid. I made a strong start to the race and made up many places. For tomorrow we’ll improve something on the bike but the important thing will be to give it our all and score a good result. I want to thank my team as they’ve done an amazing job on my bike.”

Adrian Huertas (MTM Kawasaki) was an unlucky retiree in pitlane on lap 13, with Tom Booth-Amos (Motozoo #racing by Puccetti Kawasaki) scoring points in his first ride for his new team, in 13th place.
