2021 Volkswagen Golf GTI named best hatchback in Good Housekeeping's Best Family Cars

  • Good Housekeeping’s experts praise the handling, performance and utility of the 2021 Golf GTI

Herndon, VA — #Volkswagen of America is pleased to announce that the 2021 #Volkswagen Golf GTI has earned Good Housekeeping’s “Best Hatchback” honor in its “Best New Family Cars” competition. Working with experts from Car and Driver, the Good Housekeeping team evaluated hundreds of new vehicles, test-driving the top contenders on well over 5,000 miles of sprawling highways, windy town streets and busy city blocks.

“We’re honored that Good Housekeeping has recognized the Golf GTI as the sports car you can use as a family vehicle,” said #heinschafer, Senior Vice President of Product Marketing and Strategy for #Volkswagen of America. “The Golf GTI has built generations of fans by offering a unique balance of sportiness and practicality. The new 2022 Golf GTI is expected to arrive in dealers later this year, featuring more technology and power than its predecessors, while preserving the affordable hot-hatch formula that launched the segment more than 40 years ago.”

The Good Housekeeping engineering team worked with Car and Driver’s automotive experts to screen dozens of models using a proprietary formula for determining the best picks, taking safety, road manners and technology into account. The team also measured each vehicle on its usability for everyday family tasks, such as child car-seat installation. In its award, Good Housekeeping called the 2021 Golf GTI “a fun-to-drive car that's responsive and athletic, a nimble hatchback that has good cargo space for its size,” and noting that the new 2022 model is expected to deliver “even more power and sleekness than previous models on an already attractive build.”

The car that defined the term “hot hatch” embodies a classic formula:  refinement, style, power, and playful performance. In its last year of production for this generation, the Golf GTI returns with new technology and design cues that continue the tradition of affordable performance it has built since its U.S. debut in 1983. The 2021 Golf GTI is available in three trims—S, SE, and Autobahn. MSRP for the 2021 #Volkswagen Golf GTI with a standard six-speed manual transmission starts at $28,695. The seven-speed DSG® dual-clutch automatic transmission with Tiptronic® starts at $29,495. The destination charge for all Golf GTI models is an additional $995. More details, pricing and fuel economy for the 2022 Golf GTI will be announced ahead of its arrival in U.S. dealers.
