Three shows at premiere of Museum’s mascot Carlotta on 3 October 2020

  • Carlotta and Carlchen are the mascots of the #MercedesBenz Museum
  • More than 20 renowned mascots welcome Carlotta as part of three shows
  • “Kanonenfutter” improvisation theatre group guarantees diverse performance

Stuttgart. Carlotta and Carlchen will make their first appearance at a big mascot day at the #MercedesBenzmuseum on 3 October 2020. The two characters are the #MercedesBenz Museum’s new mascots. They will appear as a duo in future print media suitable for children and as motifs for merchandising articles. Carlotta will be representing the #MercedesBenzmuseum as a popular figurehead and identification figure at numerous events in addition to roaming the exhibition as a walking act every now and then.

More than twenty renowned mascots from establishments and institutions in Stuttgart and the surrounding region are expected to make their appearance at the #premiere. They will be entertaining the public at three shows of 60 minutes each, taking place in the Large Hall at the #MercedesBenzmuseum. The shows will start at 10 a.m., 12 noon and 2 p.m. Afterwards fans will have a chance to have their picture taken. Tickets for the shows can be purchased online at https://museum-ticket.mercedes-benz.com/ or at the Museum ticket desk (adults € 9.75, children and young people under 15 years of age are free) and include admission to the exhibition.

The diverse performance of Stuttgart-based improvisation theatre group “Kanonenfutter” will also be part of the show. The group integrates the mascots, creating scenes with them out of thin air and mastering playfully tricky situations with instructions provided by the audience.

The following mascots will welcome Carlotta to the #MercedesBenzmuseum on 3 October 2020:

  • Äffle & Pferdle (WDR broadcasting association)
  • Alberich (Swabian Jura tourism board)
  • Breuni Bär (Breuninger department store)
  • Fritzle (VfB Stuttgart football club)
  • Gottlieb & Emma (Forscherfabrik Schorndorf children’s science experience world)
  • Hirsch & Greif (German State of Baden-Württemberg)
  • Hugo & Trixi (Junges Schloss children’s museum, Württemberg State Museum)
  • Hugo Müller (Tripsdrill theme park)
  • Lenni Luchs (Wildline Bad Wildbad suspension bridge)
  • Luftikus (Luftballon newspaper for parents)
  • Moki (Mobile Kids Daimler)
  • Pferdie (Baden-Baden – Iffezheim race course)
  • Remsi (City of Schorndorf/Remstal tourism board)
  • Streusel (City of Sulz am Neckar)
  • Timi Hope (Die Schatzkiste children’s charity)
  • Tina Turbo and Tom Targa (Porsche Museum)
  • Wasenhasi (Cannstatter Volksfest beer festival and travelling funfair, Stuttgart)

Digital design

Stuttgart-based design studio studiokurbos designed the Carlotta and Carlchen characters – initially as two-dimensional graphics, later as three-dimensional, digital models. The result was two friendly characters: Carlotta, a personified figure that vividly captures the distinctive architectural lines created by UNStudio van Berkel & Bos (Amsterdam), and Carlchen, a car with human traits and the unmistakable Mercedes star on the radiator. Both figures skilfully represent the museum and its contents. This also applies to the names that amount to a play on words incorporating the word “car” and “Carl” (for Carl Benz), which are highly appropriate for the #MercedesBenzmuseum.

Carlotta as walking act

Steegmüller Sculptures used the digital designs to breathe life into the Carlotta figure. The company, based in Ostfildern in Germany, specialises in turning models into animated sculptures and walking acts.

In future, fans of the #MercedesBenzmuseum will be able to experience Carlotta’s charm at numerous events: after the #premiere in October the mascot will be attending events and will also be around at the Museum at weekends when no events have been scheduled. Whether it is at the Museum ticket desk, in the CAMPUS children’s and youth area or in the exhibition: Carlotta will inject fun and entertainment into all these events, inviting playful interaction and always being available as a photo and selfie motif for unforgettable memories.
