Jeremy Seewer wins in MXGP while Tim Gajser takes the championship leader’s Red Plate. Thomas Kjer Olsen toasts victory in MX2. Tom Vialle still first in the standings.
Mantova (Italy) September 27th, 2020 – After a one weekend break the FIM Motocross World Championship resumed its journey to the Tazio Nuvolari circuit in Mantova which hosted the Grand Prix of Lombardia, the ninth round of the 2020 season and the first of another triple header that will be held over the next seven days at the Italian venue. The SCORPION™ MX32™ Mid Soft front and the SCORPION MX™ Soft rear tires, combined with medium-soft mousse to best suit the numerous and technical sandy ruts and bumps on the track, were the winning choice of the Pirelli riders who achieved victories and top rankings in both classes.
Jeremy Seewer won the MXGP after Jorge Prado was relegated two positions from the top step of the podium for jumping while yellow flags were waved in the second heat. The Spaniard had to settle for third position. Thanks to the points earned with fourth place, Tim Gajser rose to the top of the standings by overtaking Antonio Cairoli who was eighth and very unlucky to crash in the second heat. The top four positions in the championship are occupied by Pirelli riders.
Thomas Kjer Olsen returned to victory in the MX2 class. A single point divided the Dane from team mate Jed Beaton who finished second after winning the final race. Ben Watson hit third position ahead of Maxime Renaux and Roan Van De Moosdijk. Sixth place belonged to Red Plate holder Tom Vialle who won the first moto. Pirelli occupy the top eight positions in the MX2 standings.
Pirelli also dominated the fifth round of the EMX250 European Championship, covering top five on the day. Thibault Benistant triumphed and still leads the standings while Hakon Fredriksen finished second, Tim Edberg third, Gianluca Facchetti fourth and Kay de Wolf was fifth.
Nancy Van De Ven posted a good second position in the third round of the WMX World Championship and occupies the same slot in the championship.
Next Wednesday the riders will be back on track for the Grand Prix of Città di Mantova, the second race hosted by the Italian site and the tenth round of the 2020 FIM Motocross World Championship.
