McLaren P1™ and McLaren GT supercar pioneers set to thrill enthusiasts at Padua classic car show

  • First hybrid hypercar from 2012 and recently-launched Grand Tourer pair up for #auto e Moto d’Epoca in Padua
  • Two cars seven years apart show how #mclaren DNA continues to transform traditional sectors with pioneering new products
  • McLaren Milano supports the largest classic car show of its type in Europe on October 24-27

Two #mclaren models that show the transformative effect #mclaren #automotive has had on the world of supercars are set to take centre stage at #auto e Moto d’Epoca in Padua, the largest classic car show of its type in Europe.

The landmark cars; the #mclaren P1™, which was launched at the Paris Motor Show in 2012 and the 2019 #mclarengt will be two highlights of the show and express in dramatic fashion how #mclaren DNA charged with a convention-defying ethos results in unique cars that compete at the top of their sectors.

“The P1™ and GT are two very different cars from different series, but they both define the pioneering spirit at the heart of #mclaren #automotive. The #mclaren P1™ is the first hybrid-powertrain hypercar ever launched, and the #mclarengt is the #mclaren that redefines the rules of a grand tourer. The cars are testament to all that #mclaren #automotive has achieved in an incredibly short space of time.”
Alex Long, Managing Director Europe, #mclaren Automotive

For #auto e Moto d’Epoca in Padua, the British sportscar and supercar brand’s short walk through time begins with the #mclaren P1™. This was the car that defined the term ‘hypercar’ with its carbon fibre construction, Formula 1-inspired aerodynamics with Drag Reduction System (DRS), and an innovative hybrid powertrain.  The P1™ was the first car to introduce the Instant Power Assist System (IPAS), developed from the KERS energy recovery system used in Formula 1 cars. With a total of 916PS, the 217mph P1TM quickly established a reputation as the ultimate drivers’ car.

Just 375 cars were built and the example #mclaren #automotive is sending to the Padua show is among the most well-known: the original Amethyst Black press demonstrator with the P1 OOV registration plate. Today it is part of McLaren’s #heritage collection.

Scroll forward seven years and another #mclaren that rewrites the rules just as comprehensively is the #mclarengt, being shown in Padua for the first time. Like the P1™ before it, the new GT delivers a unique proposition, combining the dynamism and driver engagement of a #mclaren with the continent-crossing comfort and refinement of a traditional grand tourer.

Sure to make a stunning contrast to the dark purple P1™, the #mclarengt bound for the Padua show is finished in the Elite paint finish of Namaka Blue. The car features the optional Electrochromic glass roof that has quickly become a #mclarengt signature item, along with privacy glass and Gloss Black 15-spoke forged alloy wheels. Inside, the GT is finished in luxurious Porcelain leather and equipped with the Practicality Pack to highlight the luggage-carrying abilities of the most spacious #mclaren ever made.   Prices for the Italian market start from €203,000.

Auto e Moto d’Epoca also provides a glimpse into the bespoke world of #mclaren Special Operations (MSO). Thanks to a range of MSO enhancements, no two P1™s were ever alike, and the new GT offers the same level of hand-crafted customisation. Amongst its many features, the GT is fitted with the MSO Bright Pack which includes chrome window surrounds, titanium exhaust finishers and a diamond-cut finish for the wheels.

Auto e Moto d’Epoca in Padua is a celebration of cars both classic and contemporary. Last year 1,600 exhibitors in 11 pavilions displayed 5,000 cars for 120,000 visitors from across Europe. The show began 30 years ago as a vintage car and automobilia market and today ranks as Europe’s largest event of its type.  This is the second time McLaren’s Italian distributor, #mclaren Milano, has supported the show, reflecting its enduring popularity.

Auto e Moto d’Epoca is open every day from Thursday October 24 to Sunday October 27, from 09:00 – 19:00 (09:00 – 18:00 on October 24).
