A weekly review of Honda news

“This week, I had the pleasure of introducing the new 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid to a gathering of automotive journalists in Detroit.  As the first electrified Honda SUV in our U.S. lineup, the new CR-V marks another important step in our electrification strategy, as we work toward our goal of electrifying two-thirds of our global sales by 2030.

A significant element of this initiative is a parallel effort to advance our ability to produce electrified vehicles in America as well.  The new CR-V Hybrid for the U.S. market will be built exclusively by our associates at Honda Manufacturing of Indiana. We’re investing an additional $4.2 million and creating 34 new jobs to support production of the CR-V Hybrid in Indiana.  When production starts early next year, it will be our third U.S.-made Honda hybrid, along with the Indiana-made Insight, and the Accord Hybrid, built in Ohio at our Marysville Auto Plant.

Moreover, we have begun making the two-motor hybrid system in America as well.  Our transmission plant in Russells Point, Ohio, will now supply the two-motor unit for all three U.S.-made hybrid models, while our Indiana plant will assemble the hybrid battery unit in-house, and the 2.0-liter 4-cylinder Atkinson cycle engine is built at our Anna, Ohio engine plant.

As we celebrate 40 years of manufacturing in the U.S., we also are advancing our ability to produce electrified vehicles and components at our plants in America.  This is key not only to the future of our electrification strategy, but to the future of our manufacturing operations in America.”
