Barcia and Plessinger Tackle Triple Crown in Detroit
Monster Energy #Yamaha Factory #racing Team’s #justinbarcia toughed it out to finish sEventh overall at the second Monster Energy #amasupercross Triple Crown of the season, Saturday night at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan. His rookie teammate #aaronplessinger continued to make progress in the premier class to end the night 12th overall.
A practice crash on Thursday had Barcia feeling a bit sore straight out of the gate, which was not ideal for the physically demanding Triple Crown format. The 26yr old got a good start in the first main #Event, but unfortunately arm pump put him out of contention and dropping back from fourth to 10th. Thankfully for Barcia, his arm pump issue got better as the night wore on, as did his results. He managed a sEventh-place finish in the second main #Event, and then went on to get his best result in the final race of the night. The team’s veteran worked his way up to the front, led some laps, but ultimately had to settle for third.
Meanwhile, his teammate Plessinger is continuing his education in the stacked premier class. The 2018 #250sx West and #250mx Champion is still working on improving his starts, unfortunately a big Achilles heel in the 450SX class. With three chances at the Triple Crown, Plessinger steadily made progress throughout the evening, improving on his 12th-place finish in the first main #Event to score two top-10 finishes in the other two main Events, 10th and eighth, respectively.

“The second Triple Crown of the season was a challenging night for the boys in blue. Justin came in to the weekend a little banged up from a practice crash and it definitely showed. He had pretty good starts throughout the day, definitely an improvement, but in the first #moto, really struggled with arm pump and couldn’t hold the pace. It got better in the second #moto, and finally the third and final #moto, he got a good start, got into the lead, led some laps, but ultimately finished third. Overall, sEventh wasn’t what we were looking for, but definitely made some progress throughout the day and looking forward to #Atlanta.” “Aaron on the other hand, he struggled with his starts. He’s riding well and continuing to make progress. They’ll both go home, do their homework and come back ready to go next weekend.”

“It was another crazy night of #racing for me in Detroit. The track was really good. It had a lot of option sections and I felt like my bike was working good in the whoops. The first two races for me were not great with the arm pump I dealt with, but the last race was a step in the right direction. I led some laps and put in a pretty good ride with a little bit of arm pump. My starts have definitely been getting better, so things are definitely starting to come around. So all in all, it was a decent weekend. I’m really looking forward to #Atlanta.”

“Detroit for me was pretty good, other than the starts. I’m happy with my riding. I’ve just got to get off the gate. My bike was working really well, didn’t change anything on it all day. The track broke down quite a bit tonight, more than I thought it was going to. We came away with 12th overall, I’m not extremely happy with that. I know I can do better, but it’s baby steps. We’re going to do some work this week and get ready for #Atlanta.”
