St. Petersburg, Russia – Nissan announced a new annual production record of 56,525 cars in Russia. This landmark achievement by the Nissan St. Petersburg factory, exceeds its 2017 result of 45,847 cars, by 23%.
Another notable achievement for Nissan's St. Petersburg plant in 2018 was the start of production of the new X-Trail. In preparation for the introduction of the new Nissan X-Trail at the plant, a digital simulation of its assembly was carried out beforehand, enabling the factory to effectively incorporate best practices from Nissan plants around the world.
At the end of 2018, Nissan's St. Petersburg plant celebrated the production of its 350,000th vehicle. A bright orange LE Yandex X-Trail became the milestone Nissan vehicle.
Igor Boytsov, vice president, Nissan Motor Manufacturing Russia, congratulated the plant's employees on their achievement: "Despite the headwinds we faced in the Russian car market in 2018, we managed to set a new production record. This was due to the steady demand for the Nissan Murano and Qashqai, as well as the ever-growing customer interest for the new Nissan X-Trail. The efficient operation of the plant played a fundamental role in Nissan maintaining its market share during a period of growth in car sales in Russia. The success of the company is a result of the contribution made by each employee at the plant. They should all feel proud of this achievement and feel confident we will continue to manufacture high-quality cars adapted to the Russian customer."
Production of cars at the Nissan plant in St. Petersburg started in 2009. Today the plant manufactures three popular Nissan models for the Russian market – X-Trail, Qashqai and Murano. In 2018, 26,407 Nissan Qashqai crossovers, 26,598 units of Nissan X-Trail and 3,520 Nissan Murano vehicles were produced at the St. Petersburg plant.
