69th World Motocross title mathematically won by Pirelli at the Grand Prix of Switzerland

Jeffrey Herlings continues his domination in MXGP class and consolidates his championship lead; Jorge Prado wins in MX2 and keeps the Red plate

Frauenfeld (Switzerland), 20 August 2018 – For the third year in a row, Frauenfeld hosted the Grand Prix of Switzerland and for a race that was the sixteenth round of the 2018 FIM Motocross World Championship. With four races to go, Pirelli mathematically won the MX2 title, bringing their total to 69 FIM Motocross World Championships celebrated by the Italian brand. On the hard and difficult soil of the Swiss course the riders were able to count on the excellent performance of the SCORPION™ MX32™ Mid Soft front and rear tyres, which allowed Pirelli to achieve overall victories and excellent placings in both classes.

In MXGP Jeffrey Herlings proved once again to be unbeatable. The Dutchman, with his thirteenth overall victory in sixteen races, claimed both motos and brought his advantage over Antonio Cairoli to 58 points. The Sicilian, who won Saturday's qualifying heat, was seventh in Frauenfeld due to a fall in race 1 that left him with a sore knee. There was an excellent performance by Romain Febvre who finished second and fourth place belonged to Glenn Coldenhoff who closed the event by classifying in front of Max Anstie and Tim Gajser.

Jorge Prado and Pauls Jonass shared MX2 race wins and finished the Grand Prix equal on points. Thanks to his victory in the second moto, the ‘overall' went to Prado who remains in first place in the championship standings with unchanged advantage over the Latvian world champion. Hunter Lawrence sealed third place ahead of Thomas Covington.

There were good results for Pirelli in the ninth round of the EMX250 European championship which was won by Mathys Boisrame. The French rider is still first in the table with only two races left until the end of the season.

Next weekend the riders will attempt the Grand Prix of Bulgaria, to be hosted by the spectacular Sevlievo circuit.
