The Autostadt in Wolfsburg

"People, cars and what moves them" has been the Autostadt slogan since the official opening in 2000. What inspires more than two million people every year to visit the #volkswagen Group communications platform? The #automotive theme park attracts not only people with a passion for cars, but also those who enjoy art and culture, fine dining, architecture and design. Family trips to the Mittelland Canal are a popular highlight, whether for an unforgettable day or a whole weekend. The Autostadt offers much more than cars. Open on 363 days each year, guests are invited to come here and discover the world of mobility.

CustomerCenter: Heart of the Autostadt

As the world's largest new car delivery centre, the Autostadt handles a daily volume of up to 500 vehicles. The dream of a new car is fulfilled for hundreds of guests in the CustomerCenter every day. Autostadt staff explain all the vehicle features to make taking delivery of a new #volkswagen a unique experience. The new cars come directly from the glass CarTowers. These 48-metre-high Autostadt landmarks are listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the world's fastest automatic parking system. The CarTowers Discovery Tour offers visitors a view of the inner workings of the spectacular high-bay storage facility from inside a glass cabin. Customers can take their new car for a spin in the "Ausfahrt" practice area, where they can become familiar with the technical features, try out driver assistance systems, and prepare for the drive home.

ZeitHaus: The multi-brand car museum

A day at the Autostadt offers a variety of activities to choose from. One of the most popular places in the #automotive theme park is the ZeitHaus. This car museum's collection includes more than 260 vehicles from over 60 different brands: from the Benz Patent-Motorwagen Number 1 and Ford Model T, to the Bugatti Atlantic and #volkswagen Beetle. The exhibitions feature some 100 vehicles that have significantly influenced the development of automobiles. Since the vintage cars and neo classics frequently take part in rallies and road trips, ZeitHaus exhibits change on a regular basis. All of the vehicles represent #automotive milestones in terms of technology, concept, production and design.

Eight brand pavilions: #volkswagen Group philosophy and values

Autostadt visitors will find the latest models in eight brand pavilions. The philosophy and values of each brand – #volkswagen, #volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, Audi, SEAT, Škoda, Lamborghini and Porsche – are presented in a unique way: from functional to playful, spirited or artistic. The exhibits and installations in the buildings are as varied as the vehicle brands. In the Premium Clubhouse – the eighth pavilion – guests experience the #volkswagen Group's high end segment. The imaginatively designed exhibition space currently features a mirrored Bugatti Veyron 16.4.

Driving attractions on challenging terrain

Autostadt visitors can experience the off-road capabilities of #volkswagen Touareg, Amarok, Tiguan and Škoda Yeti on challenging terrain. The two All-TerrainTracksinvite guests to test their driving skills with obstacles ranging from water hazards, to a stairway and a giant seesaw. Sheer driving pleasure is guaranteed. The SafetyTrainingCourse combines impressive driving attractions with safe driving exercises on wet road surfaces or slippery hills. A fleet of advanced electric models and hybrid vehicles is available for test driving free of charge, giving guests an opportunity to experience sustainable mobility behind the wheel.

AUTOWERK: Unique insights into automobile production

The permanent exhibition AUTOWERK – Gateway to Production offers fascinating insights into Volkswagen's automobile production. At the centre of the exhibition are seven full-scale sectioned models. Cut from original vehicles, the Porsche Panamera S E-Hybrid, Bentley Flying Spur and Škoda Octavia offer unique perspectives and demonstrate the different stages of production. The exhibition shows the press shop with an Audi A6. Limited series production is represented by the Lamborghini Aventador. Guests encounter the SEAT Leon in the body shop. At the end of the assembly line, the Golf GTI waits in quality control. Media stations offer users a chance to dig deeper into the various topics.

Design Display: How we shape the world

Objects, cities, landscapes, and even our bodies and our thoughts – are all the result of conscious design. The Design Display exhibition shows how much design shapes our lives. It centres on a 19-metre-long glass display cabinet in which two seemingly unrelated objects are juxtaposed. The aim is to encourage visitors to reflect on design and to demonstrate that good design is where daily life and future visions converge.

Level Green – The Concept of Sustainability

How does the way we live today influence the lives of generations to come? The permanent exhibition LEVEL GREEN – The Concept of Sustainability invites guests to explore the development of our future. The exhibition space is based around a net-like structure inspired by the familiar plastics recycling symbol. It creates a connection between the 26 interactive multimedia exhibits that encourage reflection and provide background information on the way social, economic and ecological aspects are interlinked. Considering the different aspects of sustainability, guests are inspired to develop their own position on how we can work together for a sustainable future.

Eat well at the Autostadt: Seasonal, regional, organic

Delicious and healthy nutrition is a high priority at the Autostadt. The ten Autostadt restaurants use ecological, seasonal and almost 100% organic ingredients. Sustainability, responsible conduct and a connection to the region define the relationship between the restaurants and their long-term partners. Bread, pasta and ice cream are made fresh daily in the three on-site manufactories. The changing menus give equal weight to varied (with meat and fish), vegetarian and vegan dishes, offering new treats for the taste buds every time.

Three restaurants are located in The Ritz-Carlton, Wolfsburg hotel. Sven Elverfeld is Chef de Cuisine at Aqua, which has three Michelin stars and a global reputation. The concepts of Terra und Deli take their cue from the Autostadt's food selection with ingredients sourced from local small and micro enterprises.

An exciting place for the whole family

Children learn the key elements of a healthy diet at the cooking school in the Autostadt's MobiVersum, a special discovery zone for the whole family. They also learn to make simple dishes and taste just how good home-made food can be. Kids can climb, slide and be active in the tree-high motion sculpture. A collection of unique vehicles present a challenge for guests of all ages who can have fun figuring out how to make them move. Preschoolers and children in grades 1 to 4 can get their Children's Driving Licence in the LearnPark during the summer months. The test includes both theoretical and practical components. Driving an electric mini-Beetle or mini-Porsche at 4 kilometres an hour, they master a track with traffic lights, street signs and zebra crossings. They can do virtual test drives in the driving school all year round.

Educational packages for children and teens

School children learn what Fair Trade means at the Autostadt cooking school. We take a look at cocoa and chocolate and ask about the source of the raw material and the conditions under which it is produced. And does chocolate really make you happy, as it is often claimed? The Autostadt was accredited as an extracurricular learning centre by the Lower Saxony Ministry of Education and the Arts in 2003. The German UNESCO commission designated the Autostadt's educational packages an "Official Project of the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development". A dedicated educational department, Lifelong Learning, offers interdisciplinary workshops on the subject of mobility for learners of all levels based on Lower Saxony's Mobility Curriculum. The programme is of course about more than just chocolate – it covers topics like design and technical phenomena that students can try out in a specially designed workshop.

World-class culture and art

The Autostadt's commitment to culture and art is evident all year round. The highlight is the Movimentos Festival each spring, a cultural festival presenting outstanding dance, concerts, readings and drama productions. Artists from around the world captivate some 30,000 visitors each year. Numerous guests also flock to the Mittelland Canal for the summer and winter programmes designed around a special theme each year. A floating island in the harbour, live music, and breathtaking shows throughout the parkland and lagoon landscape create a real summer holiday atmosphere for children and adults alike. Finally, at the end of the year, the Autostadt is transformed into a winter wonderland with ice shows, the large winter market, real snowy hills and a big ice-skating rink.

Architecture and nature in perfect harmony

The Autostadt brings together all the many different facets of mobility – including the notions of progress, ideas and inspiration. This is also reflected in the buildings of the Autostadt. Facades and roof structures made of glass, steel and aluminium are the hallmarks of the elegant futuristic architecture. The striking buildings blend as organically with the 28 hectares of the Autostadt as the natural surroundings. Gardens, water features and bridges shape an inviting parkland and lagoon landscape for guests to stroll and unwind. Well-known architects like Graft, WES & Partner have contributed their designs and expanded the master plan created by the architect Prof. Gunter Henn.

A city always on the move

The Autostadt is a one-of-a-kind project that is constantly evolving. There are always new attractions to make another visit worthwhile. More than 35 million people have visited since the official opening in 2000, making the theme park one of the most popular tourist destinations in Germany. Wherever you are in the Autostadt, excellent service is paramount and the customer is always king. Every guest should feel at home, enjoy their time at the Autostadt and look forward to their next visit.
