Success for Pirelli DIABLO ROSSO™ CORSA II in comparative tests organised by European motorcycle magazines

The latest addition to the Pirelli range is elected best hypersport tyre from the German publications Motorrad and PS and the Italian website Red-live.it which decree its superiority over rivals; Continental Race Attack Comp. Endurance, Dunlop Sportsmart TT and Michelin Power RS

Milan (Italy), 31 May 2018 – The new DIABLO ROSSO™ CORSA II tyre, presented by Pirelli to the international press at the beginning of April in South Africa at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit, has achieved victory in the hypersport tyre comparison tests organised by the prestigious German magazines MOTORRAD and PS and the Italian website Red-live.it. These all illustrate its clear superiority over main competitors Continental Race Attack Comp. Endurance, Dunlop Sportsmart TT and Michelin Power RS.

The 12/2018 issue of the German magazine Motorrad, (on sale May 25), compared Pirelli DIABLO ROSSO™ Corsa II and its competitors, equipping four BMW S1000RR (in the sizes 120/70 ZR17 front and 200/55 ZR17 rear).
The new Pirelli DIABLO ROSSO™ Corsa II was declared the winner because it proved to be the most balanced tyre in all the tests carried out, particularly on track and in the wet. The Milanese tyre brand achieved 275 out of points available in the final classification, 27 points over the last classified, the Michelin Power RS. Motorrad summarised Pirelli's victory: "In this test Pirelli reverses the prejudice according to which track-oriented tyres cannot be used on the road. The feedback and the level of grip guaranteed by the DIABLO ROSSO™ Corsa II are exceptional, even in wet conditions. For this reason the DIABLO ROSSO™ Corsa II is the clear No.1! "

This is the final ranking, with relative scores, of the comparative test organised by Motorrad:

1) PIRELLI DIABLO ROSSO™ Corsa II (275 points)
2) CONTINENTAL Race Attack Comp. Endurance (266 points)
3) DUNLOP Sportsmart TT (261 points)
4) MICHELIN Power RS (248 points)

The result of the Motorrad test is also confirmed by the comparative published by another prestigious German publication, PS Das Sport-Motorrad Magazin, which in the June ’18 issue  ratified the supremacy of the new Pirelli DIABLO ROSSO™ CORSA II compared to other hypersport tyres, again using the BMW S1000RR as a test motorcycle.
In this case, the superiority of the new DIABLO ROSSO™ CORSA II was even more evident as the new tyre of Pirelli proved to be the best in all the tests carried out, both on dry and wet roads. "The Italian tyre works excellently in all conditions, is the best all-rounder and therefore deserves to be placed in first place. It’s fast both on dry as well as in the wet, without any weakness."

Following is the ranking drawn up by PS, with a maximum score of 300 points, where the new Pirelli tyre is first with a 21-point advantage over MICHELIN Power RS, again last in the standings:

1) PIRELLI DIABLO ROSSO™ Corsa II (296 points)
2) CONTINENTAL Race Attack Comp. Endurance (294 points)
3) DUNLOP Sportsmart TT (287 points)
4) MICHELIN Power RS (275 points)

And it’s not only the testers of the German magazines who declare the new Pirelli DIABLO ROSSO™ CORSA II as the best hypersport tyre: the authoritative Italian online magazine Red-live.it, in a large and complete article (available here) compares the same tyres but the result does not change: the winner in the final classification, again the latest born of the DIABLO™ family.
In this case, Red-live.it used a BMW S1000RR for the track test on the Spanish circuit of Alcarras and a BMW S1000R for the wet test at the Vizzola Ticino circuit and surrounding  roads, assigning each parameter a maximum of 5 stars. The editorial staff of Red-live.it took into consideration the following parameters: handling, front grip, rear grip, holding a line, stability, wet and stability under braking. DIABLO ROSSO™ Corsa II was the only tyre to obtain at least 4 stars in each rated parameter, obtaining 5 for wet behaviour. In addition, Red-live.it recorded for each tyre the fastest lap on both dry and wet roads and the average lap time (resulting from a total of five laps launched in a row) on both dry and wet tarmac. On dry the DIABLO ROSSO™ Corsa II proved to be two seconds faster than its competitors, in the wet the advantage increased up to 4.8 seconds compared to the Continental Race Attack Comp. Endurance.

This is the final ranking expressed on a maximum value of 5 and the best average lap times on both dry and wet for each product.

1) PIRELLI DIABLO ROSSO™ Corsa II (4,21 points) - 1’43.01 / 40.722
2) DUNLOP Sportsmart TT (3,57 points) - 1’45.10 / 44.270
3) MICHELIN Power RS (3,43 points) - 1’45.32 / 42.578
4) CONTINENTAL Race Attack Comp. Endurance (3,07 points) – 1’44.80 / 45.267

Samuela Bracco, Pirelli Moto Marketing Director, commented on the successes achieved: "Pirelli, always attentive to market trends and the constant evolution of the needs of motorcyclists, with the first version of the DIABLO ROSSO ™ CORSA presented in 2011 was the first tyre company to invest and, in fact, to create the hypersport segment giving life to a tyre that, in terms of performance, was positioned halfway between the supersport and racing segments. In more recent years, the path traced by Pirelli has also been followed by other competitors but the know-how and experience we have acquired over the years, also thanks to the participation in the World Superbike Championship, allow us to remain the undisputed leaders of the segment, as evidenced by the victories achieved in these comparative tests ".
