MXGP - Race - Podium finishes for Gajser and Vlaanderen

20 May 2018
GP of Germany
Teutschenthal, Germany
MXGP 2018, Round 8

The rutted hard-pack #teutschenthal track was the backdrop for what turned out to be a successful weekend of #racing as #timgajser and #calvinvlaanderen both put in season best finishes with a second and third place overall in their respective classes.

For Team HRC’s Gajser, it was another good sign of things to come as he continues to work his way up this competitive #mxgp field. Two second place finishes was his best points tally of the season and there were a lot of positives to take away from a track that was difficult to pass on and provided a real challenge later on in the day. In both races, he got good starts on his CR450RW before making the necessary passes to secure the second step on the podium. The Assomotor Honda duo of #arminasjasikonis and Petar Petrov both fought hard for their points tally and will now head to Great Britain with a bit more belief that the results are heading in the right direction.

Calvin Vlaanderen will also ride at the Matterley Basin circuit near Winchester, England with buoyed confidence after his podium performance for Team HRC. The South African rider scored his best ever points total in a GP with his two third place finishes giving him 40pts and third overall. A good start in the first race on his Honda CR250RW really helped his chances, but there was a real test of character in race two as he had to pass and hold-off his closest challengers in order to cement his place on the podium. Behind in with sixth overall was Martin Racing’s Michele Cervellin, who once again showed that in hard-pack conditions, he has the speed to battle with the best of this MX2 class.
