Quintanilla & Short climb higher in Dakar’s provisional standings

ROCKSTAR ENERGY #husqvarna FACTORY #racing DUO WILL LOOK TO IMPROVE THEIR POSITIONS IN RALLY’S OVERALL STANDINGS Already in San Juan following the cancellation of Thursday’s stage 12, the duo of #rockstarenergyhusqvarnafactoryracing riders #pabloquintanilla and #andrewshort are looking forward to the 2018 Dakar Rally’s two final stages. Their main goal for the next two days of #racing in Argentina is to climb higher in the rally’s overall standings.

After thousands of #racing kilometres across Peru and Bolivia and into Argentina, #rockstarenergyhusqvarnafactoryracing riders have reached the penultimate bivouac of the 2018 Dakar Rally in the city of San Juan. Riding in groups along main roads following the cancellation of stage 12, they reached the San Juan bivouac early in the afternoon and started preparing themselves for the last two stages of the rally.

Battling through everything that has been thrown at him, reigning Rally World Champion #pabloquintanilla is currently placed eighth in the Dakar’s provisional overall standings. Looking for some good individual stage results, the Chilean rally star has his eyes set on getting as close as possible to the top of the leader board.

For #rockstarenergyhusqvarnafactoryracing rally rookie #andrewshort, this Dakar has been a huge learning experience. Putting in an impressively consistent performance so far in South America the US racer will look to wrap up his debut Dakar on a high note.

Taking racers to the last bivouac of the race in Córdoba, tomorrow’s stage 13 features a 369km timed special, together with a massive 560km liaison section.

Pablo Quintanilla“This has been a challenging Dakar for me but I am still here doing my best. Yesterday I had a small technical issue and lost some time in the dunes to repair it. It’s been a tough event for everybody and the most important thing is that I didn’t make any big mistakes and I am still in the race for the finish. I’m looking forward to these last two stages of the rally. I will do my best for some good results while also taking the chance to improve my navigation.”

Andrew Short“Day by day we are getting closer to the finish. Following my crash from two days ago, my riding yesterday was a bit on the cautious side. I started off tentatively and soon realised my shoulder was weaker than what I anticipated. However, as the day went on I started feeling better. Starting together with the cars and the trucks, navigation might have been simpler but riding conditions were really difficult. I think that’s also why they cancelled the stage today. The goal now is to cross the finish line. The most important thing for me is that I’ve learnt a lot these last couple weeks and I now know exactly what I need to work on for the future. A Dakar is like a whole season of #racing motocross in just 14 days.”
