At Orlyonok Pirelli shines in the muddy Grand Prix of Russia of the FIM Motocross World Championship

Jeffrey Herlings finished second in MXGP while Pauls Jonass wins again in MX2. KTM riders are still on top in the Championship standings: Antonio Cairoli is leading in MXGP and Pauls Jonass in MX2

Orlyonok (Russia), 11 June 2017 – The Grand Prix of Russia marked the return of the FIM Motocross World Championship in this country after five years. The race was hosted on the new Orlyonok track, located on the Black Sea shore at about 150 kilometers from the former Olympic headquarters of Sochi. The Russian track, due to the heavy rains that struck the area, was almost impraticable with mud and deep grooves that Pirelli’s riders have faced equipped with the SCORPION™ MX32™ Mid Soft front and rear, tires that, even in these bad conditions, have shown their excellent performance.

Jeffrey Herlings was second in the MXGP class thanks to the victory in race 1 and a brilliant comeback in the second after a fall at the start. Third step of the podium belongs to Gautier Paulin, fourth and third in the two races. Max Anstie finished fourth on tie points with Antonio Cairoli, fifth overall, thanks to the best placement of the brit in the final round. In Orlyonok's mud, the eight-time world champion was able to not make mistakes losing only a handful of points in the championship. Romain Febvre, sixth, was the only rider to prefer the SCORPION MX™ Mud, the rear tire specially designed and developed by Pirelli for these conditions.

Overall victory in MX2 class for Pauls Jonass. The Latvian, which remains firmly on top of the standings in the mid-season round, was very fast and consistent grabbing excellent placements in the two races. Great second place for Jeremy Seewer who has won race 2 and continues to be the first of Pauls Jonass's pursuers in the championship. Good sixth place for Hunter Lawrence while Thomas Kjer Olsen closed only eighth due to a fall in race 2 after winning the first.

Between two weeks, the riders will be involved in the Grand Prix of Lombardy, which will be hosted for the first time on the sandy track of Ottobiano, in northern Italy near Milan.
