Chevrolet introduces official Truck Legends of Texas

Among all the brand-new vehicles on display at the State Fair of #texas, #chevrolet today unveiled a 16-year-old #silverado with more than 375,000 miles on the odometer. Its owner, Lonzo Anderson of Arlington, #texas, has been named the Official Chevy Truck Legend of #texas.

Displayed in a place of honor for the duration of the State Fair of #texas, Anderson’s #silverado is a testament to the most dependable, longest-lasting trucks on the road.

“We met Lonzo at last year’s State Fair of #texas when he sought out the team at the Chevy display to tell us about the incredible durability of his #silverado,” said Hugh Milne, #chevrolet #silverado marketing manager. “Conversations like that helped inspire the Chevy Truck Legends program. When we started looking for a customer’s story to share at this year’s State Fair, we could not think of anyone more deserving than Lonzo.”

The First Chevy Truck Legend of Texas

Anderson’s purchase of his 2000 #silverado began with the demise of his previous vehicle, a car that broke down 16 years ago and prompted him to seek a more dependable ride.

“When the tow truck arrived to pick up my stalled car, I asked the driver to take me straight to Vandergriff #chevrolet in Arlington,” said Anderson. “I bought my #silverado right then and there. From that point on I’ve driven my truck just about every day. Sixteen years and more than 375,000 miles later, I still demand a lot from my truck, and it always delivers.”

Anderson’s #silverado has traveled the equivalent of 15 trips around the globe, all on the original engine.

“My favorite thing about my truck is that I can always depend on it,” said Anderson. “I was once called into work during an ice storm that left most people in the area stranded at home. Thanks to my #silverado, I was able to get out of my neighborhood and back to work with no trouble.”

Chevy Truck Legends Program

Anderson’s experience is exactly why #chevrolet developed the Chevy Truck Legends customer appreciation program. It is free to join and open to all #texas residents who have more than 100,000 miles on the odometer of their Chevy truck, or have purchased or leased more than one new Chevy truck in their lifetime. The program rolls out nationally in 2017.

All Chevy Truck Legends members will receive exclusive branded memorabilia, including Truck Legends hats, Truck Legends decals and, if applicable, decals celebrating mileage milestones ranging from 100,000 to 1 million miles.

Participating dealers may also offer additional benefits such as free car washes,  discounted oil changes and #chevrolet accessories.

Chevrolet will periodically offer Truck Legends members once-in-a-lifetime experiences leveraging Chevrolet’s other partnerships. These could include the honor of having their truck displayed at the State Fair of #texas to items such as tickets to sold-out Major League Baseball events — or even getting a sneak peek at new #chevrolet models.

A Texas-sized thank you

The first of those once-in-a-lifetime experiences occurred yesterday at an exclusive preview of the all-new Duramax 6.6L turbo-diesel engine in the 2017 #silverado HD at the #texas Motor Speedway. A few Truck Legends members and their guests were the first outside of #chevrolet to learn about the all-new enginefrom Gary Arvan, chief engineer and program manager for the Duramax diesel. Guests were also the first outside the company to drive the new 2017 #silverado HD, experiencing the engine’s 445 hp and 910 lb.-ft. of torque at the iconic track.

The experience culminated when Chevy set the Guinness World Records™ title for the World’s Largest Flag Pulled by a Moving Vehicle, a 40- by 80-foot United States flag flown around the track with a 2017 #silverado 2500HD. The guests were able to play a role in the #event, driving their trucks in a victory lap.

“We know our customers rely on #chevrolet trucks for work and play, every day,” said Milne. “Events like the 2017 #silverado HD sneak peek at #texas Motor Speedway and the State Fair of #texas are our ways of thanking some of the customers who have made Chevy trucks such a success here in #texas and across the country.”
