Mercedes-Benz has won outright in five categories in this year's vote by readers of the German #motorklassik magazine for the best classic motor vehicles. The 300 SL "Gullwing" was the winning classic car from the 1940s or 50s. When asked to consider which current vehicles have the most potential to be future classics, readers opted for the Mercedes-AMG GT, the #mercedesbenz G-Class and the #mercedesbenz V-Class. The replacement parts service provided by #mercedesbenz Classic was the winning pick in the "Best Brands" category. In total more than 22,000 Motor Klassik readers took part in the survey for this year's #motorklassik Awards.
Stuttgart. "We take particular pleasure in this success", says Christian Boucke, Head of #mercedesbenz Classic, "because #motorklassik readers have shown by voting that they appreciate our brand's vehicles both in terms of historical depth and when looking to the future. The fact that we are also being recognised for our service expertise in relation to classic #mercedesbenz vehicles rounds off the achievement perfectly."
In total 22,217 readers of Motor Klassik magazine voted in the #motorklassik Awards. They decided on the best classic cars of 2017 from six eras and on 2017's future classics in nine categories. There are also 15 "Best Brand" awards for parts and service, and three special categories.
The title of "Klassiker des Jahres 2017" (Classic Car of the Year 2017) for the 1947 to 1961 era went to the #mercedesbenz 300 SL "Gullwing" (W 198, 1954 to 1957), which garnered almost one third of the votes (32.8 percent). When voting for future classics, the classic car fans were similarly emphatic about the #mercedesbenz G-Class (39.8 percent, in production since 1979), the Mercedes-AMG GT (30.7 percent, in production since 2014) and the #mercedesbenz V-Class (26.2 percent, also 2014 onwards).
Participants in the survey are not just classic car enthusiasts: many of them have direct experience, with 64 percent owning a classic vehicle themselves. According to the magazine's own calculations, the voters in the #motorklassik Awards possess an average of 2.3 classic cars each.
