Pirelli dominates the Grand Prix of Europe of Motocross at frosty Valkenswaard

Herlings wins his home Grand Prix and keeps the red plate in MXGP. A fourth win from four races for Pauls Jonass in MX2 that increases his advantage in the championship

Valkeswaard (The Netherlands), 19 March 2018 – The Grand Prix of Europe marked the return of the FIM Motocross World Championship to European soil after the first race of the season in Argentina. On the cold and snow-covered Dutch sand of Valkenswaard’s Eurocircuit, all Pirelli riders chose the SCORPION™ MX32™ Mid Soft front tyre. For the rear the SCORPION™ MX SOFT was once again the popular choice for the leading players of the Grand Prix: in the MXGP category it was used by Jeffrey Herlings, Antonio Cairoli and by the Husqvarna and Yamaha factory riders. Pirelli's latest tyres ruled the podiums of MXGP and MX2 class.

Jeffrey Herlings charged through to win both races in the MXGP class. The Dutchman, despite a fall in qualifying, was too fast for his peers and grabbed his eight career victory at Valkenswaard. He beat Antonio Cairoli, who took both holeshots and was second overall. Herlings and Cairoli dominated the Grand Prix while Gautier Paulin filled the third step of the podium. Pirelli held the first six positions of the MXGP standings thanks to the fourth place from Glenn Coldenhoff, fifth by Romain Febvre and sixth by Max Anstie.

As two weeks ago in Argentina, Pauls Jonass won both MX2 races in Valkenswaard ahead of his teammate Jorge Prado. The factory KTM riders in MX2 class relied on the SCORPION™ MX32™ Mid Soft front tyre and the new SCORPION™ MX SOFT rear. Pirelli dominated the MX2 classification in the Netherlands thanks to the third position of Thomas Kjer Olsen. Fifth place for Thomas Covington and sixth for Hunter Lawrence.

Pirelli also won the first round of EMX125 with a double victory by Austrian rider Rene Hofer (KTM), and in EMX300, won by Greg Smets (KTM), son of the four-time world champion Joel Smets.

Next weekend the championship will continue with the third round of nineteen; the Grand Prix of the Comunitat Valenciana which will be hosted for the first time at the Redsand track, Spain.
