Comment on FCA’s December and Full-Year 2017 Sales in Italy

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles closed 2017 with full-year sales in Italy up 5.5% over the prior year to more than 557,500 vehicles. Alfa Romeo posted a 24.6% year-over-year increase, while Jeep and Fiat brand sales were up 22.3% and 4.3%, respectively. Jeep posted its all-time best annual sales result in Italy and, in December (sales up 36.8%), its second consecutive market share record. In fact, Jeep brand sales accounted for 3.4% of total industry sales in Italy in December, driven by the success of the Jeep Renegade and the Jeep Compass (with orders already totaling 32,000 units). #fca closed the year with a total of six models in the top ten. These included the Fiat Panda, Lancia Ypsilon, Fiat 500 and Fiat Tipo, which took the top four positions. In December, the Italian top ten was dominated by no less than seven #fca models. These included the Fiat Panda, Fiat 500X and Lancia Ypsilon (top 3), together with the Jeep Renegade, Fiat 500, Fiat Tipo and Fiat 500L. The Alfa Romeo Giulia was the best-selling vehicle in its segment in December.

 

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles closed 2017 with full-year sales in Italy up 5.5% over the prior year, to more than 557,500 vehicles, and market share at 28.3%. Alfa Romeo posted a 24.6% increase for the year, while Jeep and Fiat brand sales were up 22.3% and 4.3%, respectively.
Six models placed in the top ten for 2017, including the Fiat Panda, Lancia Ypsilon, Fiat 500 and Fiat Tipo (top four), together with the Fiat 500X and Fiat 500L.
In December, #fca sold a total of more than 31,900 vehicles, with market share at 26.4%. A total of seven #fca models ranked in the top ten for the month. These included the Fiat Panda, Fiat 500X and Lancia Ypsilon (top 3), together with the Jeep Renegade, Fiat 500, Fiat Tipo and Fiat 500L.

As in November, the Group's overall sales result reflected balanced management of market share and financial results.

Fiat posted full-year sales of 402,350 vehicles, up 4.3% year-over-year, with market share at 20.4%.
In December, brand sales totaled nearly 21,800 vehicles with share at 18.0%.
A total of five Fiat brand models (Panda, 500, Tipo, 500X and 500L) ranked in the Italian top ten for 2017. In December, the two best-selling vehicles in Italy were the Panda and 500X. Also in the top ten for the month were the 500, Tipo and 500L. The Fiat Panda was the best-selling car in Italy for both December (7,500 vehicles sold) and the full-year (144,500 vehicles sold). With these results, the Panda accounted for 39.0% of the Italian A segment in December and 41.6% for the year. The Fiat Tipo continued to gain momentum, ranking in the top ten for both December and the full-year and leading the C segment for the full-year with a 20.6% share. The Fiat 500 continued as one of the most popular vehicles in Italy, with the 500 and Panda accounting for a combined 58.4% share of the Italian A segment for the year. The Fiat 500L also continued as the best-selling vehicle in its segment (52.7% share) with more than 44,000 vehicles sold in 2017. The Fiat 500X also closed the year strong, ranking second overall in December and leader in its segment for 2017 with an 18.7% share.

Lancia sold more than 60,300 vehicles in 2017, accounting for a 3.1% share of the Italian market. In December, brand sales totaled more than 3,100 vehicles and market share was 2.6%.
The Lancia Ypsilon continued as one of the most popular vehicles in Italy and was number one in its segment, for both December and the full-year, with a 12.3% share.

Alfa Romeo closed the year with sales up 24.6% to more than 45,300 vehicles and market share 30 basis points higher at 2.3%.
In December, brand sales in Italy totaled nearly 2,900 vehicles and market share was 2.4%.
These results were driven by the continued success of both the Giulia and the Stelvio. The Giulia was number one in the D segment in December with a 21.9% share. And - with more than 7,600 vehicles sold in 2017 - the Stelvio ranked among the leaders in its segment.

Jeep sales were up 22.3% in 2017 to nearly 49,500 vehicles, the brand's best annual sales performance in Italy. Market share was 30 basis points higher at 2.5%.
In December, brand sales were up 36.8% year-over-year to more than 4,100 vehicles. As a result, market share was 100 basis points higher at 3.4%, the second consecutive monthly record in Italy.
Those results were driven by the Renegade which, with 37,600 vehicles sold, also held a 15.4% share of its segment in 2017 (second only to the Fiat 500X). The new Compass also posted positive results, with 7,700 vehicles sold and 32,000 orders already received in 2017.
